Budtenders Ball: Police crash ‘weed party’ but the celebration goes on

November 20, 2015 By Manic Conrad

The DB3/Zoots sponsored Budtenders Ball happened last night at The Crocodile in Belltown. The private, industry only event, brought budtenders together from recreational marijuana stores throughout the city.

The show began at 8:30pm and lasted until 1:30am with musical performances by Pickwick and Fly Moon Royalty. Of course, we were looking forward to seeing Pickwick but wow, was Fly Moon Royalty great or what?!

In addition to the musical guests, a charity raffle was held and door prizes were handed out. Proceeds of the raffle went to Mary’s Place, which is a charity that empowers homeless women, children, and families.

We spoke to two of the founding brothers who were in attendance, Dan and Patrick Devlin. They both were beyond thrilled with the generous turnout and expressed their excitement for the existing industry and the future. Patrick expressed that this event was a ‘celebration on many levels.’

One unforeseen event occurred a couple of hours after the event started. The CannaBus, which was parked outside the entrance, was ordered to shut down or move to a different location for the duration of the evening. The bus was catering to attendees by providing a refuge to consume cannabis since consumption was not allowed at the event.

It appeared that someone may have complained about the smell of cannabis as a police officer was seen taking control of the situation. The officer acted very professionally and cordial. In fact, this may have been the tamest party crashing we have ever witnessed.

All in all, the Zoots sponsored event was a raving success. It’s events like this that remind us how lucky we are to be part of an industry where positive individuals come together from all walks of life.

A special thanks to Zoots/DB3 and the Devlin brothers for putting on such a wonderful event, Kyle Mallory of Koopman Ostbo, Pickwick and Fly Moon Royalty for their noteworthy performances, all the budtenders who showed up representing their stores and industry, and the Cannabus for rolling with the punches while progressing the industry.

Fred Meyer Stores “Likes” Marijuana

Fred Meyer Likes Marionberry Kush by Emerald Janes

We were a little surprised when we checked our Instagram account but apparently Fred Meyer Stores “likes” Marionberry Kush by Emerald Janes. Or, maybe they thought it was some kind of decorative moss that they sell in the “Garden Center.” We will never really know but still kind of cool.

Online marijuana design

The peoples at Online Marijuana Design are at it again. These super creative, creatives, have created a five minute video smoking weed and having a jolly good time.

Led by the man in charge of OMD, Jared Mirsky, and his fellow combatants; they discover a ‘bong’ of sorts while searching for Waldo, read excerpts from the book titled: ‘The 200 Most Awesome Things About Dope,’ and one of them discovers they may have a cavity with the help of a Krispy Creme donut.

Be sure to also check out their new fun website redesign and bad ass branding and design!

10 other countries with some form of legal marijuana

August 17, 2015 By Manic Conrad

world map

By now, you have heard of the three other states (Washington, Oregon, Alaska, Colorado) and one district (Washington D.C) that have legalized recreational marijuana. You may have also heard of Uruguay who became the first country to legalize recreational marijuana last year, and the Netherlands who have had a marijuana industry for a while now.

But, did you know that there are 10 other countries on the world that have some form of legalized marijuana?

Argentina: Legal for personal use in small amounts

Chile: Legal to possess up to 10 grams and grow up to 6 plants

Columbia: Legal to possess in small amounts and grow up to 20 plants

Czech Republic: Purchase and sale of up to 15 grams

Ecuador: Up to 10 grams

Jamaica: Legal to grow up to 5 plants

North Korea: Legal (debated)

Peru: Legal up to 8 grams

South Africa: Legal to sell and grow

Spain: Legal to possess

Of course, before you go to any of these countries and decide to toke up, we highly suggest you do more research. In other words, we are not responsible for your actions. Here is the complete list.

A pre-Hempfest rant

August 14, 2015 By Manic Conrad

Let me get this straight. Last year, organizers of the world’s largest marijuana festival, Hempfest, created a marijuana lounge that was fenced off and out of public view. This allowed people to respectfully ‘duck out’ and take a toke (as if anyone at Hempfest would give a shit).

Now, because of a little tiny section written into the legislation that makes it a class-c felony to provide a place for people to smoke marijuana ‘publicly,’ Hempfest cannot have a lounge where attendees can smoke.

Wtf.

We are the first state in the entire nation to legalize marijuana. Almost 3 years removed from that beautiful day. Yet, we got to resort to smoking in our homes or apartments, shades drawn, hoping that we have the blessings of our landlords or neighbors, hoping they don’t complain.

You know what’s worse? Oregonians, who don’t even have a shop that sells recreational marijuana, are hanging out in legal cannabis cafes right now, having good laughs and good times, smoking marijuana just like they do in Amsterdam.

So…do you know what’s going to happen now that Hempfest was forced to get rid of the smoke lounge? Everyone is going to smoke in public view just like they always have. So much for the legislation. And I guess, so much for this rant.

Enjoy Hempfest everyone! Have a tokin’ good weekend.
