This weeks review is Chocolope, a strain from GrowState. High Above Seattle picked it up from Fremont’s OZ (located on Stone Way N) for a killer price, that pot shop is quickly becoming my go-to place.
GrowState is a producer based out of Spokane, WA. Quality is important to them, and this clearly shows from the delicious Chocolope I had the pleasure of enjoying.
The producer currently has about 20 strains on the market, all of them affordable and dank looking (thanks to the strains page on their website). Competitive pricing is a important and truly the heads will go where the best business is done, budwise and price-wise.
Something that I’ve been vehement about is the need for producers to use clear bags so that we can see the product. The marijuana producer shares my opinion, “GrowState maintains superior customer service through meticulous attention to every detail, from the THC levels to the clear packaging“. Preach.
If the bag is opaque, then we can’t see what we’re buying – and shops lack the legal ability to open a package (they can only show you display nugs of the strain you are buying).
Anyway, let’s talk some specifics about the strain:
Smell: Grape + Berry + Sour
Taste: Earthiness + Chocolate + Bonfire
Launch Point: 4-5 minutes after smoking
High: Creative + Spacey + Uplifting
The chocolope looks lovely, as you can tell from the photos. A brilliant shade of green, with a wealth of red hairs reaching out. The nugs are plentiful, crispy with crystals, and dense.
As much as I wanted to smell chocolate, or coffee – I couldn’t shake the strong grape/berry scent. There was a distinct earthiness to the aroma that certainly could smell like chocolate to some. Regardless, it’s a great smelling strain.
In terms of taste, the Chocolope’s chocolate becomes more abundant. The earthiness and smokiness combine to bring a ton of flavor. Apparently the strain comes from a mixture of Thai Chocolate x Cannalope Haze, so I’d say there is more to the bud then the name suggests in terms of taste/smell complexity.
After smoking some Chocolope, it’s easy to just relax and let time trickle by. Although it’s a sativa, this herb has some serious indica tendencies in terms of being able to make you space out. I will say that it’s somewhat subdued in comparison to other higher THC sativas, but that doesn’t mean the strain disappoints in any way.
Chocolope is a strain that’s good for going out and getting something to eat, maybe grabbing a few beers. We hit up Mammoth in Eastlake and got ourselves some wild sandwiches. Did I mention they have like 50 taps, and fill growlers? Yup.
The high was perfect for the blend of casual day drinking and scrumptious food. There is a bubbly nature to the strain that lends itself to social interaction. GrowState has a potent product here, and it’s worth picking up some Chocolope for your next sunny day excursion.
