Marijuana Review: Mickey Kush by Avitas Agriculture from Seattle Area Shop Herbal Nation

October 2, 2014 By Fischer Campbell

Marijuana Review: Mickey Kush Cannabis Strain By Avitas Agriculture & Sold At Herbal Nation

Mickey Kush is made by Avitas Agriculture, and I picked up a gram at Herbal Nation (in Bothell, WA) for $34.99.

Avitas Agriculture, Inc. is a producer based in Arlington, WA.  Asides from having outstanding product, Avitas has a great website.  While browsing the site, I read up on Avitas’ core values: Customers, Quality, Community, Environment, Genetics, & Cultivation.  They also list the current cannabis strains available, and what stores are carrying Avitas products.  It is impressive to see such a dedicated producer with a sleek website; it’s clear to see why Avitas is confident in their product, and their brand.

Cannabis Review of Mickey Kush

The packaging for Mickey Kush (and all Avitas products) is elegant, and concisely includes everything you could want on a package of great herbs.  Front side, the sticker includes percentages for indica & sativa, and also includes a strain description:

“Extremely potent, punchy and intense cerebral effects.  Not for the novice smoker!”

Having a description for every marijuana strain requires a separate sticker for every strain.  Regardless of the fact that they have to print a sticker detailing testing results and tracking information, Avitas sets a great example by having the individual strain description front and center in the midst of every well designed sticker.  Read High Above Seattle’s article on Avitas packaging here.

The Specifics:

Indica – 25% / Sativa – 75%
THC Total % – 15.74
CBD Total % – 0.04

(take a look at the sticker photo for more)

Mickey Kush smells earthy – it’s a subtle yet deep aroma.  There is a hint of fruit towards the end, and overall the scent is not too pungent (i.e. it doesn’t filter through the room upon simply opening the package).

This specific batch of Mickey Kush is nicely dried, but could have used a little more trimming on the leaf end.  All leaves aside – the cure on the bud itself is great, and clearly professional.

I sampled Mickey Kush out of a pipe, and it’s truly the type of herb that tastes how it smells; deep earthiness carries over into a smoked chocolatey flavor, with a lingering hint of lemon-ish fruit.  A truly great taste.

The onset is quick, and just as the package says, it delivers an intense cerebral head high.  It’s easy to get sucked into any activity while smoking with Mickey Kush.  Time passes by quickly, and it’s a great “doing stuff” high.

Burnout and fatigue are minimal, so I’d have to declare that smoking with Mickey Kush is a fantastic experience .  I’m very pleased with Avitas’ product, and next week’s review will be of Plushberry (another one of their strains).

Marijuana Review: Blue Dream by Liberty Reach from Seattle Area Shop Herbal Nation

September 25, 2014 By Fischer Campbell

Liberty Reach Marijuana Strain Blue Dream From Seattle Area Herbal Nation

I had the pleasure of getting my hands on some Blue Dream, handmade by Liberty Reach – and currently being sold at Bothell’s Herbal Nation.

Liberty Reach is a grower based out of Raymond, Washington.  Using a brief Google search, one can find out that Liberty Reach is actually a “brand name” for producer/processor BMF Washington.  There is no official website for BMF Washington or Liberty Reach (that I could find), but there is a BMF Washington Facebook page with 6(!) likes.

Herbal Nation was selling two different Blue Dream’s from Liberty Reach: one batch had a stronger THC percentage, and cost slightly more.  Naturally, I went for the higher THC Blue Dream because, why not?

The packaging itself is simple, adorning an image of a mountain with stars.  It has a homemade feel, further reinforced by the line “handcrafted in Raymond, Washington”.

This specific Blue Dream has a very pungent and sweet smell, with a slight lingering spice.  It seems to permeate through the bag, beckoning to be sampled.

The Specifics:

THC: 21.02%
CBD: .154%
Harvest Date: 7/28/14
Back of the Liberty Reach Cannabis Packaging
Liberty Reach’s Blue Dream is decently dried, but I wouldn’t call it well cured.  Despite that fact, there is an excellent balance of nug to leaf ratio, providing mostly bud – but yielding a keef frosted leaf around every corner.  I actually enjoyed the ratio, as I prefer to stick a leaf at the bottom of each bowl to help prevent precious herbs being pulled through without restricting air flow.

Smoking out of a water pipe, Blue Dream tastes fresh with a gradual sour flavor (which is delicious).  Smokeability itself is superb, the buds burn great and aren’t harsh.

Getting high with this Blue Dream will result in an instant wave of euphoria upon exhaling.  The feeling comes on strong, and you’ll continue to peak higher over the course of a half hour; it’s kind of like watching a balloon rise up towards the skies, uncontrolled and at the mercy of the elements taking it higher.

It’s a wonderful feeling though – one I would recommend for those with a couple hours to fully enjoy it.  This is not the herb you want to smoke right before you have to do anything important – like work.  The way the high builds is very intense and should be enjoyed without constraints of order; in a couple hours you’ll be sorted, and moving on to the next hit.  Also, I’m not advocating getting high before work… I just know some people do it and am giving them fair warning.

Comedown is not as bad as you would imagine for such a high THC content strain, but still you’re going to feel on the tired side.  It’s basically like taking a trip to outer space and back – but without getting the bends.

Heed my advice: save this superbly potent Blue Dream for a day off, take your protein pills, and put your helmet on.

I got Liberty Reach’s Blue Dream at Herbal Nation in Bothell. $29.99 / gram.

$20 Joint? $100 Bus Ride? Nothing Comes Cheap in Weedland

August 14, 2014 By Manic Conrad

UPDATE: Here is a list of marijuana tours and party busses.

One thing for sure, Weed Land can be expensive. Especially when there are a lack of competitors to help even out the playing field.

Price Gouge?

This week, Herbal Nation, a Seattle area recreational marijuana retail store opened its doors in Everett. And just like Cannabis City in the SODO area of Seattle, this weed shop has a limited supply and prices high enough to make your eyeballs bulge out of your face.

Can you say a $20 joint? Sure, it’s pre-rolled and yes it’s grounded up flower – not shake. But 20 bucks for a joint is a flat out price gouge! For that price, I expect that joint to be hand rolled by Seth Rogen and only using the finest papers available. Heck, I never paid more than 10 bucks for a joint of the finest quality in Amsterdam!

Need A Ride?

Call me old fashioned, but I am used to paying about two bucks to ride the city bus. Granted, the city bus doesn’t have certain privileges like the Weed Bus does (Oh, you haven’t heard of the Weed Bus? Then check it out here when it made an appearance outside the Capitol Hill Block Party).

But despite the ability to toke and ride, $25 an hour per person (as this Craigslist ad suggests) can be spendy for someone on a budget. In other words, it could cost you 100 bucks to ride the Weed Bus if you’re on it for four hours! Of course, you may be gifted some cannabis which makes the price a little more attractive.

The bottom line is, we simply don’t have a place to smoke weed legally unless we are in the comforts of our home. And I’m not even sure if a weed bus is legal, not legal, grey area or what – but at least the Weed Bus gives us another option while encouraging reform.
