Wake Up and Bake, Seattle

August 10, 2015 By Ellie Klein

Wake up and bake seattle

Marijuana has been legal in Washington for almost three years, with recreational marijuana sales in Oregon ready to begin October 1st. However, Portland has just reopened the World Famous Cannabis Cafe, a place for people 21 years of age and older to smoke with others while Washington still has no place like this. Wait, why doesn’t Washington have a similar cafe for smokers to come together to enjoy legal pot and good company in a bar-like setting?

About two years ago, Seattle City Attorney Pete Holmes asked the state liquor control board to allow private clubs for people to smoke in. A major reason behind this push was for tourists to have a place to smoke the legal pot they purchase. Smoking inside marijuana shops and in public is not legal. Of course, Washington residents are allowed to smoke in the privacy of their homes; however, those who rent a home must abide by the contracts of their rental agreement. Holmes was hoping to help tourists and renters with this measure though his proposal was not accepted.

The World Famous Cannabis Cafe provides numerous smoking devices and social ambiance and all that is required of patrons is $10 at the door as well as their own marijuana. In Oregon, recreational marijuana is only sold in small quantities at medical marijuana stores, as there are no recreational-only stores until sometime in 2016. Citizens are also allowed to grow up to four of their own marijuana plants. Consumers are legally able to partake in the privacy of their own homes, or on private property. In terms of obtaining recreational marijuana, Washington makes it a bit easier at this point but still falls behind in public consumption.

Colorado is home to numerous marijuana clubs, where members can go to enjoy pot together. Like The World Famous Cannabis Cafe, patrons pay an admission fee and bring their own marijuana. Colorado Amendment 64 prohibits public consumption of marijuana, but private pot dens are legal because they do not sell marijuana, nor do they sell any food or drinks. These clubs were created so that people may gather and smoke marijuana indoors without fear of legal retaliation from landlords or law enforcement. They are the answer to the wishes of renters and tourists.

Opposite the other states’ admissible pot dens, Washington cracked down on establishments that allowed marijuana consumption on the premises when recreational marijuana was first legalized. The government explicitly stated the reason for this was because the law clearly states that consuming marijuana in public was illegal, and restaurants and bars are public places. Though, Colorado and Oregon both have similar laws and allow marijuana consumption in private buildings which don’t sell marijuana, food, or drinks.

So, why is it that Colorado and Oregon have bars for people to smoke marijuana, but Washington does not? All three states prohibit the public consumption of marijuana though two of the three allow private pot den operations as long as they do not sell marijuana or food. It is likely only a matter of time before Washington lawmakers ease up and allow marijuana clubs to establish. Until then, it is up to the marijuana consumers of the state to keep asking for leniency in the law so everyone, including renters ad tourists, can enjoy their legally bought marijuana indoors with the company of other consumers.

3 States that could be the last to legalize recreational marijuana

July 27, 2015 By Ellie Klein

While a few states have legalized recreational marijuana and another few allowed people to grow marijuana themselves, there are three states that could be the last to legalize. These three states all have key components in common which inhibit the governments from legalization. Following are the three states along with High Above Seattle’s best-informed guesses for why the states fall into the last-to-legalize category.

Idaho marijuana

Idaho

High Above Seattle recently investigated why this particular state will likely be one of the last three to legalize. The police system in Idaho seems to believe that Washington and Oregon, the state’s bordering neighbors, made the wrong decision when they legalized marijuana. One individual who works in Idaho’s prison system believes that his state will be the last to legalize because of its conservative stance on many issues, including pot.

There are some who believe that even in the midst of federal legalization, Idaho will pass its own laws which will keep marijuana, such as that you can Get more info about online, illegal. Idaho passed a resolution making marijuana reform illegal, which may put the state as the very last in the country to legalize, years after the second-to-last.

Lousiana marijuana

Louisiana

Louisiana has some of the country’s harshest marijuana laws, though it is still possible to obtain a louisiana medical marijuana card with a medical marijuana recommendation from a doctor. If you don’t have a recommendation and are found to possess marijuana on your person and have a previous felony, there is a strong likelihood that you will be sentenced to prison for life. If you are caught with marijuana on your person a couple times in a row, you will likely spend up to 20 years in prison.

However, in hopes that the state will not be the very last to legalize, there is a possibility that marijuana legalization will be put to a statewide vote late next year. This would be a huge step for the state, as this ballot would protect anyone over the age of 21 from criminal charges for possessing or purchasing marijuana. It would also make it much easier for Lousiana natives to obtain marijuana seeds from places like ILGM to grow and sell, which would be great for Louisiana’s economy too. Keep your eyes on Louisiana during the next presidential election as its people vote and the state attempts to relieve itself of its current legalization ranking.

Kansas

Kansas

Currently, possessing marijuana in Kansas may result in some hefty fines. Those who are caught with any amount of marijuana on their person may face up to a year in prison and a $1,000 fine. If a person has a second offense for possession, they may be convicted of a felony and face three and half years in prison, as well as a possible $100,000 fine (yes, all of those zeros are correct!).

The majority of Kansas voters believe that medical marijuana should be legal in the state. However, the Kansas legislature disagrees. Two legislature members recently introduced bills that would allow those who are ill access to medical marijuana in Kansas; both bills were shot down during the session. Even with overwhelming support from its citizens, Kansas refuses to budge on its legalization stance.

With this being said, there are other states that allow the use of medical marijuana for patients who use this to relieve any pains and ailments they may have. It is not just as easy as asking for product through. You need to have a legal medical marijuana card from your doctor. If you are wanting to try this way of pain relief, you could look into finding a illinois medical marijuana card (if you live in and around this area of the states). It is best to go down the right path when it comes to getting the right product for your needs.

There is a possibility that marijuana becomes federally legal, in which case numerous states will follow the newly introduced federal regulations. My best guess puts Louisiana third to last, Kansas second, and Idaho last. However, even with valuable education about marijuana and its healing properties, only time will tell how long country-wide legalization will take.

Apache 6 Security: This is how you protect marijuana

July 13, 2015 By Ellie Klein

A longstanding security company in the legal marijuana industry, Apache 6 Security. Apache 6 offers discreet security systems and prominent advertising, paired with an honorable dedication to military veterans. This security company offers so much more than just surveillance systems; it offers a partnership to grow your cannabis business while making a serious difference in the lives of many people. Protecting businesses with seed to sale software in line with government compliance, can help businesses feel safe when distributing alongside their security protocols.

An important part of the Apache 6 mission is to give back to military veterans. The company does not hire employees, it recruits individuals with military backgrounds which span many different categories of skill sets, including surveillance. One individual who was recently recruited to join the Apache 6 team, Jason, is a former Army Ranger who single-handedly installed a surveillance program in Afghanistan for the troops. His next step is to secure all growers in Washington and Oregon. Along with surveillance specialties, the company has hired individuals with special forces backgrounds, and even former NFL players.

Apache 6 recruits people who have made an impact in their former line of work, both literally and figuratively. Because the company is branching out into other ventures, such as advertising, it is important to bring in people with expertise and an edge.

Advertising is something that the company has been recently focused on. The advertising that the company offers is unique in that it offers product placement on television, but not just any normal 60-second slot in between segments of your favorite show–rather, product placement in music videos with celebrities. Certain brands and labels are worn by celebrities in music videos and on tour. This form of advertising is very effective in the industry and clients who work exclusively with Apache 6 have access to these promotional perks.

Of course, Apache 6 is does not only promote brands which hired the company exclusively. The company simply cares about its team of military veterans and wishes to reward those who hire them. If a marijuana industry business is only interested in partially working with Apache 6, that business is still eligible for product promotion. However, celebrities usually only make an appearance in shops where the company is currently working.

Currently, Apache 6 is promoting 2Reps, a rap duo out of Portland. The company is shooting the duo’s “Mike Epps Presents: I Just Wanna Smoke Tour,” which will bring the people of Apache 6 with 2Reps on tour. Apache 6 is not only promoting the tour, it is also hosting the Mike Epps after party in Portland in August.

Apache 6 and 2Reps will soon host a video blog about dispensary tours around Washington, and likely Oregon, next year in the hopes of finding the “best pot, and the growers who made that possible.” Also, those who are currently working with Apache 6 will have an opportunity to hang out VIP style with Mike Epps next month. Furthermore, a few lucky brands will have the opportunity to raffle tickets at the World of Weed in Tacoma, Seattle Tonics in Seattle, and the GreenHead Cannabis in Vancouver. As you can see, partnering with Apache 6 has some intense perks, including advertising opportunities which span the Pacific Northwest.

Week of Marijuana Celebrations! [HighAbovePortland.com]

July 6, 2015 By Manic Conrad

marijuana legalization Portland

Oregon kicked off the legalization of marijuana in grand fashion, with the city of Portland leading the way. There was the midnight toke celebration at the Burnside Bridge on Thursday night followed by Weed the People celebration at the MCF Craft Brewing Systems on Friday.

Samantha Webster was in attendance representing Liberty Reach. She and her room mate former Ganja Goddess budtender couldn’t resist this photo op:

Both events had free sampling of cannabis. And if that wasn’t enough, the very next day was the celebration of the country’s independence. Not a cannabis celebration, but I’m sure some of you added that component to the mix.
