Marijuana Review: 12th Man Down by Phat Panda

October 10, 2016 By Fischer Campbell

12th Man Phat Panda

It may be a bye week, but we live in Seattle dammit and it’s time to do a Seahawks themed strain because, y’know… go Hawks, and “why not you”, and – yeah.  So break out your blue/green attire, and dig the sativa hybrid known as 12th Man Down.

Made by Phat Panda, we picked up an eighth at Bellevue’s Green-Theory for $39 (a smokin’ deal).  Coincidentally, I had chosen to visit the shop during a “flash sale” (only lasting 3-4 hours, often only publicized on social media), and the budtender (Gilly) strongly recommend the specific strain on sale.

According to Gilly, the strain was basically Girl Scout Cookies – but renamed.  Being a big fan of Cookies, I was intrigued and wanted to take on this Hawks themed iteration.

Phat Panda is based out of Spokane, and they have a wide selection of strains available.  I would consider their products on the “higher end” of the recreational market, usually costing upwards of $50-$60 for an eighth – still the potency is there, and they haven’t let me down yet.

Let’s dish on some Strain Specifics:
Total: 19%
Total Cannabinoids: 22%

Strain: 12th Man Down
Species: Sativa Dominant Hybrid (60/40)
Date Harvested: 06/23/16
Smell: Pine + Soap
Taste: Funky + Gasoline
Launch Point: Three to five minutes after smoking.
High:  Giddy + Balanced + Versatile

According to the budtender, 12th Man Down is Thin Mints – which is actually Girl Scout Cookies (I touched on this in the intro).  Basically this strain is beloved for it’s ability to give relaxing vibes yet not sedate heavily, and it’s powerful head high.

12th Man Down is highly crystallized.  The color is like a light green, seemingly glowing under the bright lights.  The buds were crisp and burnt well after being ground up.

After snapping a bud apart, it was apparent there was a pine-sol like aroma in the room.  That strange combination of synthetic floor cleaner (all purpose?) and earthy soil smell, it’s one of my favorites.  The taste was notably gasoline-y (or rubbery, depending on your taste buds).  Still good, though!

Okay so I’ve been on what we call a “bender” for a few weeks (thank you fresh hop season), and as a result I’ve been looking for strains that provide me with the strength to press on.  12th Man Down may sound like a songfest – but it brings you “up”, despite the name.

There was mild sedation with the strain, though that’s to be expected.  Some times we all just need to remember that life’s too short to smoke bad weed.  If this strain seems like your kind of ticket, then you can find Phat Panda products at Green-Theory, and probably at your favorite pot shop.

Go Hawks!

Marijuana Review: Blue Dream by Phat Panda

May 3, 2016 By Fischer Campbell

With this sudden jolt of heat, I figured a crystal-cool sativa would hit the spot. We’ve covered Blue Dream before, but not the iteration from Phat Panda. It was recommended to me by a budtender at Fremont’s fully recreational Have-A-Heart*, a gram cost $18 – which is a little steep, but after she showed me the bud it was already bought (in my mind).

The producer is one that I’ve seen many times before, but had not picked up. Washington based, Phat Panda is a brand line of marijuana under the guise of Grow Op Farms. Featuring over 40 strains, these farmers have been hard at work. With so many different strains, you would need the best weed grinder to get you through many of them. Luckily, sites similar to Led Grows Lights Judge can help you find the best grinder for you.

Judging from the webpage, the nugs look spectacular. If you don’t believe me, check out their pictures; deep colors with potency to match. Phat Panda clearly delivers an artisan line of marijuana.

Let’s get to the Specifics, already!:

THC: 0.2%
THC A: 23%
CBD: 0.1%
Total: 20.4%

Strain: Blue Dream
Species: Sativa
Harvested: 04/05/16
Smell: Vanilla + Tangerine
Taste: Cheese + Citrus
Launch Point: Instantaneous after smoking.
High: Clear headed + Euphoric + Motivational

According to Phat Panda’s website, “Blue dream is… born from crossing DJ Short’s Blueberry Indica and the Santa Cruz native Super Silver Haze. It’s medicinal uses are mainly in the treatment of depression and anxiety related symptoms”.

I took the pictures right as the sun was setting, around 7:30pm. The last golden ray of shine cast itself upon Blue Dream, and it lit up like a tiny planet itself. Delicate and keif covered, these nugs are worth the entry fee (if you’re feeling a treat ‘yo self mood coming on).

After crumbling a bud apart, there were immediate hints of something like tangerine citrus. I also smelled sweetness, maybe vanilla. In terms of taste, I definitely picked up cheesy funkiness; along with a bit of the citrus vibe from before.

The high is strong, but not in a way that feels thick. There is a crispness factor that is almost motivational; encouraging you to be positive with whatever you are doing. Blue Dream is versatile in terms of smoking anytime of the day or night, which is why it’s one of everybody’s favorite strains.

If you’re looking for a similar high to Blue Dream, check out the Rocky Mountain Dispensary, with a variety of strains to take your fancy. Click here to read more on the dispensary and its products.

Nice weather is upon us, so we must in turn respond with nice nugs. Phat Panda products are also available at many retailers, some of which being: Green-Theory (Bellevue), Stash Pot Shop (Ballard), Ganja Goddess (SODO), and the aforementioned Have-A-Heart (Fremont).

*Have-A-Heart is an advertiser on High Above Seattle. This is no way influences the review of the marijuana itself. It’s conveniently close to where I live (though there are many locations), thoughtfully architecturally designed (it was a medical shop long before), and I’d be buying there regardless of the fact.

Music and food. What else could possibly make this event better than it is?

Easy. How about exclusive discounts, brand new product releases, and a little one on one time with some of the top vendors in the recreational marijuana industry such as: Phat Panda, Avitas, Dawg Star, Liberty Reach, My Weed Bunny, JuJu Joints, Zoots, The Goodship, Smoke Emporium and Dope Magazine?

If this was a music festival, that would be one damn good lineup.
