Marijuana Review: Chem DD by Secret Gardens of Washington

May 20, 2015 By Fischer Campbell

Clutch Cannabis Secret Gardens of Washington Chem DD marijuana review

Chem DD Secret Gardens of Washington Clutch Cannabis

Chem DD (also known as Chemm DD F-2) is the name of the strain at hand today.  Yes, “double D” (heh heh).  We procured this product from Renton area recreational pot shop Clutch Cannabis (formerly known as Rain City Cannabis).  This store has some great specials on certain days of the week, and offers a VIP membership – definitely worth a visit.

Strain: Chem DD
Species: Hybrid (Chemdawg x Sour Diesel)
Smell: Cheese-Funk + Foreign Fruit Market
Taste: Banana + Sweetness + Skunk

The producer of Chem DD is Secret Gardens of Washington – love the name; part of me wants to crank up the Bruuuuuuuce and pop in a VHS of Jerry McGuire.  SGOW (for short) is a premier producer for Washington, and pride themselves in having potent, perfected product.

SGOW’s website has an index of select strains including testing information, here’s Chem DD‘s:

You’ve got to admire the dedication that goes to creating these infographs, and I appreciate having this information in such specific terms (although to be fair most of these graphs are beyond my comprehension).  All the same – good on you, SGOW!
The packaging is a small mason jar (dawww).  A Seuss-like vine wraps around the logo on the cap, sporting a rustic design.  Printed on the container is the strain name, minimal testing results (there is a QRS code linking to the infograph above), and harvest date.  I like the fact that this little nug jar can be used after the product is gone, perhaps there could even be some sort of recycling program implemented.
Now, bring forth the nug! (giant gates open)

Chem DD is emerald green, with a blanket of kief.  The nugs are nicely cured, slightly sticky but easy enough to break up with your hands.
Smelling this strain is delicious.  Unscrew the mason jar, and let the aroma seep into your living room (or, wherever).  When breaking this herb up, there was a significant amount of fruity skunky pungency.
The taste reminded me of bananas, or perhaps banana liquor.  It’s hard to nail down specific flavor (and scents), some folks will undoubtedly not taste banana, but truly that’s what my taste buds get from sampling this bud.
Getting high with Chem DD is intense yet airy at the same time.  I’ve had Chemdawg, and I’ve had Sour Diesel; both strains are heavy hitters.  This is the love-child between two foundations of marijuana, so yeah – it’s damn potent.

Prepare for couch lock, and intense visuals (if you close your eyes).  There is an equal frequency of mental and physical vibrations that come along with consuming this strain, lay back and enjoy it.  As the great Doctor used to say “buy the ticket, take the ride”.  With such a high rise, there is a fall: be ready for the burnout.  Have some tea or coffee, preferably anything with caffeine, close by.
From the look of SGOW’s bounty, they have some unique strains.  It’s not doubt that we will review more of their products in the near future.  Catch you next week!

Rain City Cannabis is now Clutch Cannabis

Rain City Cannabis is now Clutch Cannabis

Rain City Cannabis has changed it’s name to Clutch Cannabis. Same location, same great service, and same great selection of recreational marijuana. Just a different name. And web address, Twitter, and Instagram.

We have updated our Seattle marijuana stores guide to reflect this change.

More than just marijuana: all the little things

April 28, 2015 By Manic Conrad

marijuana freebies

We realize we are part of something special. The ‘special’ being the recreational marijuana industry.

The reason why this industry exists is because of cannabis. Without it, there is no industry. But, this industry is more than just marijuana. It’s special.

To be honest, I have not been part of a cooler industry. Seriously. Every person that we have met, whether he or she is an owner of a recreational marijuana store, a producer or head grower of cannabis, or a customer standing in line at a shop, has been really super cool. And it’s more common these days to meet them due to so many states legalising the stuff completely! Even if they aren’t full accepting of it, you can still access a cannabis card in states like Virginia to show you have been prescribed it and this is easy to get on sites like this one https://www.cannabisrxhealth.com/medical-cannabis-card/virginia!

And anyway, before the marijuana industry, did you ever meet a stoner wearing a tie-dye shirt that was a complete asshole? Or anyone who had an invested interest in the plant? I wouldn’t know, I have never met one. I’m sure they exist, but I imagine they are far and few between.

The point is, marijuana has always been about enlightenment, knowledge, love and bringing everyone together. The late great Bob Marley beautifully summed it up in two words: ‘One Love.’

While the marijuana plant makes this industry go around and brings us together, it’s the little things, the freebies inspired by creativity and inspiration that is icing on the cake. Hey, I love craft beer just as much as the next Joe, but when the last time you purchased a bottle or 6-pack and received a mix cd or a trading card in return? I like the craft beer industry and think its great, but that example just solidifies for myself that we have something special here.

We have seen these Goodship Co. stickers and a beautifully designed postcard laying around in several recreational marijuana stores.

Buddy Boy Farm trading cards

What a great and fun idea! We scored these Buddy Boy Farm trading cards for free at Ganja Goddess. The back of these cards have a detailed description about the strain of cannabis.

Mirth Provisions bottle cap Uncle Ike's match box

Uncle Ike’s has been known to give away free lighters and boxes of heavy duty matches with their iconic branding. Oh, and if you spend over $100 at their pot shop, you get a free t-shirt.

The Mirth Provisions bottle cap is not free, but it’s free to keep if you purchase their sparkling beverage! We just included it because sometimes the thing that makes us smile is written with words such as: ‘Legal until further notice.’

Rain City Cannabis mix CD

If you visit Rain City Cannabis, you may be lucky enough to walk away with a mix cd. One of their budtenders has two tracks on this mix.

All Aboard! Follow Us on a Seattle Marijuana Shop Road Trip

April 27, 2015 By Ellie Klein

Washington State legalizes marijuana delivery services

On Friday, we had a fun and adventurous road trip to several recreational marijuana shops in Seattle. The trek was complete with very appropriate Seattle happenings, including a lot of rain, cannabis conversation, incredible budtenders, and a very interesting (but super friendly) cab driver who saved us from becoming stranded. You should have been there! But, because you weren’t, we documented a play-by-play of our outing for your reading pleasure. It all started in a mysterious tunnel…

Seattle-lite-rail-tickets

All aboard! Round trip tickets for the Seattle light rail.

Okay, it was the Westlake underground transit tunnel at noon, so it was not very mysterious. (Though, have you been down there at midnight? Mysterious is one way to describe it at that hour…) We took the light rail to Rainier Beach, which dropped us about three miles away from our first destination: Rain City Cannabis.

Admittedly, we had not thought about transportation from the light rail to the shop prior to landing, so, naturally, it started to rain. We tried to flag a passing taxi, but someone beat us to its services. We called yellow cab, waited on hold for many minutes plus two minutes too long, and then called an orange cab. I am still not sure if the orange cab that we flagged after calling was the one for us, but he stopped and agreed to be our designated driver. Swell guy!

Rain City Cannabis resides in an ‘old world’ brick building.

Rain City Cannabis is chock full of some of the friendliest budtenders a recreational smoker could ever meet.  Tae, the shop’s manager/designer, gave us a rundown of Rain City Cannabis’ fine selection, which features Fireline, Secret Garden, and Top Shelf. The shop is also the proud recipient of the Dope Cup runner-up award for best hybrid flower. An expansion project is being planned, which will result in more service windows and more products. Rain City Cannabis is definitely worth a visit!

Remember that awesome cab driver? He is so rad that he swung by to get us after our Rain City Cannabis visit and quickly delivered us to our next destination: Seattle Cannabis Company in SoDo.We have covered this amazing new shop before (here), but we really can never get enough of this local-cannabis stop. The shop’s selection is always fresh and the budtenders really know their stuff. Plus, the attention to detail found here (reclaimed wooden doors? Yes, please) is truly memorable. This spacious, boutique style shop has a very bright future and we can’t wait to see its evolution.

From that last gem of a shop, we walked down the road to another gem, and, oh, is it a sight to behold. Ganja Goddess has incredible ambiance, complete with 100-ish-year-old exposed brick walls, numerous hanging chandeliers, and captivating tapestries. The shop features God’s Gift, a record-breaking strain at 40.1% THC. Lee, a budtender we spoke with there, is incredibly friendly and full of cannabis knowledge. Be sure to shake his hand and pick his brain on your next visit.

Because we were in the neighborhood we decided to pop into Analytical 360, Seattle’s marijuana testing facility. We discussed a current controversial topic with the man in charge there: whether or not pesticide tests and regulation should be mandatory in the recreational and medical marijuana industry. There is so much information to address in regards to this issue, which is why High Above Seattle will soon feature an article on this topic alone. Stay tuned!

After leaving Analytical 360, we had a realization: we should have ridden the light rail to SoDo from Rainier Beach, rather than take a cab. In all our excitement, we forgot to ask the cab driver to take us back to the Rainier Beach light rail station. We quickly recovered from this moment because we were having a blast and nothing could rain on our parade (except for real rain, of course). I only mention this for your own road trip! Save a few bucks and light rail away, friends.

The last stop on our agenda was Cannabis City, also in SoDo. This was Seattle’s first licensed recreational marijuana shop and is full of very interesting wares, as well as very engaging and intelligent budtenders. This shop showcases glass paraphernalia, including guitars that double as smoking devices. Local art abounds here and the positive vibe is contagious. Do yourself a favor and visit this iconic and historic shop.

Cannabis City marked our last stop, so we walked a couple of blocks east to catch the light rail back downtown. As we digested our eventful day, we talked about everything from dogs to high parents. We encourage you to recreate our road trip, or make up your own route! Let us know how it goes and spare no details; we can’t wait to hear about it!

High Five Interview: Tae Rhee of Rain City Cannabis

January 14, 2015 By Manic Conrad

Tae Rhee Rain City Cannabis Seattle

Rain City Cannabis celebrated the end of 2014 by opening their doors to the recreational marijuana industry. We would like to thank this recreational marijuana store owner for taking the time out of his busy schedule to answer the following questions. For opening Rain City Cannabis in the Rainier Beach area of Seattle, we give Tae Rhee a ‘High Five.’

1) Predict the Future. Three years from now what does the local Seattle recreational marijuana industry look like and where are we nationally?

Seattle needs to figure out what they are going to do with the “legal” and medical marijuana access points. I hope to see a combined model in the future where both medical and recreational marijuana can operate within the same store. I’d say that it’s a long shot for national legalization within 3 years but I’m hopeful for 2020. When this finally happens, people will be asking a lot of different questions that they want to have answered about marijuana and how it may be able to help them. Those who are in need can Get more information over at mygreensolution.net for the future.

2) Go back to the age of 21. Someone tells you that you would open a marijuana shop in Seattle in 2014. How do you react and what do you say?

It would probably feel a lot like winning a favorable spot in the I502 retail lottery license.

3) What is your favorite part about running Rain City? What is the most challenging?

My favorite part of running Rain City is that the fact that I am operating a recreational cannabis store. I get to sell cannabis to adults and it’s legal! I’ve spent over two years planning for this opportunity – planning everything from the location to the marijuana packaging to the products we sell and so much more! And at Rain City, we have a vision for the future of cannabis and we are ready to forge our path in this burgeoning industry.

Our current challenges are competing with the grey market prices, banking, taxes and sourcing medical grade cannabis. I502 Retail stores have to operate with razor thing profit margins and at times it can be difficult to compete against the unregulated market. As a business owner I want to seize these challenges and take them head on. At the end of the day Rain City Cannabis is here to provide you a well curated selection of cannabis at every price level. Create your experience at Rain City Cannabis.

4) Who is your role model and why?

Small business owners because being your own boss is the most terrifying, stressful and ultimately the most rewarding life choice one can make.

5) Martian Mean Green, Schnazzleberry, and Trainwreck, are some of our favorite names for strains of cannabis. Here’s your chance! If you could name a strain of cannabis, what would you name it?

In honor of Seahawk great Kam Chancellor I would go with “Bam Bam Kush”.
