‘Evergreen’ Marijuana Documentary and After Party

July 1, 2014 By Manic Conrad

Evergreen road to legalization documentary

If you have not seen the marijuana documentary, Evergreen: The Road to Legalization, you still have time. But, don’t wait too long as the final showing at the Seattle International Film Festival, on July 3rd.

‘Evergreen’ is an excellent film which gives a non-biased view on the legalization battle between the those for and agains I-502. Towards the end of the film, the un biased view became a little lopsided – but not to the fault of the filmmakers – as the ‘No on I-502’ party declined to be filmed anymore.

Alison Holcomb and her efforts and dedication for I-502 took center stage and left a memorable impression; as did travel writer Rick Steves and former U.S. Attorney for the Western District of Washington, John McKay. Steve Sarich, had a prominent role in the documentary, leading the opposition against I-502.

The marijuana legalization documentary does a really good job of presenting both views and arguments. In addition, the pacing of the film was superb. Do you enjoy watching documentaries, interested in marijuana legalization and/or a resident of Washington State? If so, this is a must watch film.

If you were one of the lucky ones to view the film on Friday, you were invited to a special after party at the PDA Lounge marijuana dispensary in Belltown. A group of approximately 40 ticket holders showed up to meet and greet the filmmakers and to hang out in the back of the lounge. Not only do these filmmakers know how to make a fabulous documentary, but they know how to party!

Support this piece of work and educate yourself with a little bit of history at the same time!

List of 7 Seattle Marijuana Celebrities, Rock Stars, Icons & Businessmen

June 9, 2014 By Manic Conrad

Here is a list of 7 icons, rock stars, and celebrities, affiliated – in some way – with the city of Seattle and the plant we have all grown to love: marijuana. Our list is made up of people from the past as well as the present. That’s not our only requirements, though. They had to be a little more than a closet toker, or have an unconfirmed affiliation with weed…sorry Bill Gates. We’re not exactly sure how they all went about accessing their weed, for example if they used it for medical purposes or if they grew their own using organic hydroponics, which is all the rage at the moment, we just know that they played big roles in helping it to become the cultural phenomenon it is today.

7. Jamen Shively – Marijuana entrepreneur

This former Microsoft executive and Chief Executive of Diego Pellicer has made big plans for the company. After capturing national media attention, they are aiming to be a national chain of marijuana stores. If everything goes as planned, his first of what could be many stores will be opening up in the Industrial District of Seattle.

6. Jimi Hendrix – Former rock musician, singer, songwriter

Although Jimi’s song “Purple Haze” is not exactly about cannabis, there is a strain of marijuana named after it, which signifies the power of association that people have with the former rock genius and cannabis. In the following video, rare footage shows Hendrix enjoying a joint with friends in Paris.

5. Nirvana – Former grunge super group

Kurt Cobain, Krist Novoselic, and Dave Grohl did not shy away from the topic of marijuana or promoting its use. They seemed to frequently leave evidence of their marijuana adventures. Most notably, the following video. Less notably, they recorded a song called “Moist Vagina”. According to the lyrics, it seems to be about marijuana and sex.

4. Eddie Vedder – Frontman of rock mega-group Pearl Jam

Last December, while Pearl Jam jammed a 3+ hour set at the Key Arena, Eddie Vedder took a moment and expressed his thoughts about the legalization of marijuana and gay marriage in Washington State, claiming it put the state on the “right side of history.” In the past, Vedder has generally been open about smoking pot and has spoken about the herb in a positive manner.

3. Macklemore – Grammy award winning hip hop artist

While Kurt, and Eddie openly talked about marijuana, enjoyed it, or even sung about it, Macklemore has actually rapped about it and made the meaning of his lyrics quite obvious. In the song “Tommy Chong,” by local Seattle hip hop duo Blue Scholars, Macklemore makes a guest appearance and gives his 2 cents. It appears that, in these lyrics, he is ‘not against legalization – but against glorification’ He concludes that ‘moderation is key.’

I went to that Bob Marley stage, that ganja ganja
That one love brah, it’s a medicine that makes you stronger
Equated to me chilling, isolated in my apartment
Blazing an eighth a day and playing Grand Theft Auto
Like “Damn, I’m way more creative”
Twenty minutes later, staring at the paper
Yeah, and 4/20, it was all about the love
Now it’s 4:31 and I’m paranoid as fuck
Like “who are these hippies, and where are my real friends?
Why are you playing hacky sack in a field, Ben?
You need visine, your eyes are real red
Wiz Khalifa’s gonna fuck your girlfriend”
I’m not against legalization, not at all
I’m against glorification, you are not Snoop Dogg
Moderation, that’s the key
But the door’s unlocked
It’s up to you how you use it
Make the call, c’mon

2. Dan Savage – American author, journalist & editor

This well known local editor and nationally acclaimed sex advice columnist has been a big voice in Seattle politics, including gay marriage and I-502. Savage has a no-holds-barred style of journalism where he has no problem giving his opinion or using himself as an example. In his latest pot related writing for The Stranger, Savage writes about how smoking weed has helped him get over his own inhibitions while making his sex life better. This is a fine example of someone that is willing to stand up for what they believe in no matter the ramifications on their societal “ranking” – considering Dan offers sex advice, you can also Find invaluable fuck advice at videoshd.xxx.

1. Rick Steves – Travel Author & I-502 Activist

He may not be the most well known on our list, but we have Rick Steves at numero uno. This popular travel writer and tv host, responsible for encouraging a generation of travelers to check out the wonders of Europe, has also been partly responsible for Washington State’s legalization of marijuana as an I-502 activist. You may have seen him at one of the Seattle Hempfest events as he has become a regular pro-marijuana speaker. Recently, we made a marijuana prediction that Steves will be responsible for bringing an influx of Europeans over to Seattle, as part of the marijuana tourism boom.
