Marijuana Review: Super Lemon Haze by Green Haven

August 8, 2016 By Fischer Campbell

August, the month of realizing that summer’s almost over – better make it count.  This isn’t the time to get burnt out or tired, no sir.  Super Lemon Haze by Green Haven is here with the coffee to give you that nudge you need, first thing.  A true morning strain to help you ease into the day, or evening.

We picked up Super Lemon Haze for $30/3.5 grams from American Mary*, while catching Pokemon in Wallingford.  Pro tip, someone’s often using a lure at Dicks (two blocks away).

There isn’t much to say about the producer, because they have no internet presence.  No matter though, here’s what I’ve got: based out of Granite Falls, Washington – Green Haven was established in 2014.

Green-Haven-Super-Lemon-Haze-marijuana-review-1

Seriously though (in this author’s opinion) it doesn’t matter about tweets and websites.  Give me affordable, decent marijuana and lord knows I’ll try it.  I’m always looking for something to placate the voices (kidding), and certain times a heavy-hitting strain is too heavy.  ♫ Well, that’s why Super Lemon Haze done me right, ‘cuz on her feet the high’s so light ♫.

Lay me some specifics:

THC A: 19.68%
CBD A: .03%
CBD: .02%
Total THC: 17.85%

Strain: Super Lemon Haze
Species: Sativa
Date Harvested: 07/03/16
Smell: Earthy + Bubblegum
Taste: Sweet + Citrus
Launch Point: Creeper (6 – 8 minutes after smoking)
High: Good Mornin’ + Pleasant + Light + Crisp +No Sedation

Born from Lemon Skunk x Super Silver Haze, this is a popular sativa – enough to win the Seattle cannabis cup (2014).  This strain is typically (medically) prescribed for stress, and pain (headaches/migraines).

This particular iteration from Green Haven was super fluffy, and vibrantly green.  The delicate buds were heavily cone shaped,  bristling with kief and robust orange hairs.

Talking about smell, there was definitely a fruity bubblegum aspect.  I could smell dirt too, like an earthiness; it worked, I can dig the duality of aromas.  The taste was noticeably sweet, with perhaps a lemon-citrus thing going on (I say “perhaps” because sometimes the names get me, placebo effect and all that).

Getting high with Super Lemon Haze is a positive experience.  I enjoyed it as either a morning weed, or an appetizer to bigger things (evening-wise).  It’s nice to have bud to balance out your tolerance, and serve as a base to build upon (I’m talking about getting more high as the day progresses, without peaking before making the conscious decision to collapse into bed).

Green-Haven-Super-Lemon-Haze-marijuana-review-4

I can get up, smoke some of this strain, and go about my day in an efficient manner that it is also lifted.  As a stoner, we all know that after a good night’s sleep, the first toke of the day is going to get you super high.  Look at it as climbing a mountain, I’d rather start at an even pace as opposed to a sprint.

If you’re looking to give this strain a try, or other products from Green Haven – swing by American Mary* in Wallingford, or let us know in the comments section if your local pot shop carries products from Green Haven.

*American Mary advertises on High Above Seattle, which in no way influences the products we buy or our perception of enjoyment.  We strive to find new names that we haven’t sampled before, and sometimes wind up with a strain worth talking about, but a dead-end on producer information.

Expect pot shops in Downtown Seattle

January 12, 2016 By Manic Conrad

downtown Seattle

On Monday, the City Council voted to make buffer zones smaller for marijuana retail stores. Previously, the state law required a 1,000 foot buffer.

The buffer has been reduced to 500 feet from certain establishments such as daycares, parks, etc. The 1,000 foot buffer between schools and pot shops stays in effect.

The buffer is reduced even further to 250 feet in downtown. This will make it easier for visitors to the city to purchase marijuana instead of trekking to other parts of the city.

Marijuana Review: Sour LSD by Rapa Nui

October 26, 2015 By Fischer Campbell

Put on your best Vincent Price impersonation, because this is the spookiest, scariest, pumpkin flavored (not really) review that we’ve ever had!   Boo!  Gotcha.

This weeks review is of a strain called Sour LSD; the bemusing, and slightly terrifying name drew me in, and the quality of the product made it a must-have. We picked this herb up from Oz, located in Fremont, for the excellent price of $65 for 7 grams (tax included).

Rapa Nui Sour LSD Oz. Fremont Seattle

Sour LSD is produced by Rapa Nui hailing out of Lyle, Washington.  Rapa Nui seems to be part of/owned by a operation called Pacific Land and Cattle; a google search yields a 502 data page.  Not super informative, but whatever – the weed kicks ass.  In this age of crisp, clean and SEO friendly webpages indulging what you want to see, sometimes the product just has to speak for itself.

Let’s look at The Specifics:

THC: 16.2%
CBD: 0.10%
Total Cannabinoid: 18.9%

Strain: Sour LSD
Species: Sativa (Sour Diesel + LSD)
Smell: Stone Fruit + Banana + Skunk
Taste: Grapefruit + Pine + Sweet
Launch Point: Within a minute after smoking
High: Bright + Social + Creative

The nugs themselves are glorious, all crispy and crusted with kief.  Marvel upon the product in the photos, for this iteration of Sour LSD is truly a sight to behold.  The stalk was minimal, the buds were plentiful and the packaging preserved freshness.

Popping open the top, the aroma of citrus and banana is rampant.  All marijuana smells good to me (to an extent), but I dare say that this strain really stood out. The taste was a solid blend of pine and sweetness, made even stronger by smoking of a vaporizer.

Since I obtained a quarter of Sour LSD, I was able to test it out in various occasions.  This is a proven morning, and afternoon strain – not saying that you shouldn’t smoke at night, but the effects were more present during the day.

There was minimal burnout, which is convenient when you need to get stuff done, but want to toke a little something to make the day a bit more abstract.

Speaking of abstract, this is a useful jack-o-lantern strain; we went out, got some good looking pumpkins, and had ourselves a stoned carving contest (which sounds much more dangerous now that I think about it).  I, of course, made a TARDIS pumpkin.

Regardless of throwing caution to the wind with the whole stoned knife thing, a bud with a thoroughly creative experience is often worth keeping tabs on. Rapa Nui has a splendid product here, and we are excited to try another strain of theirs in the future.  Have a safe halloween, and try to not eat too much candy.

Three Changes I would Like to Happen for the Seattle Marijuana Industry

October 5, 2015 By Ellie Klein

Marijuana legalization is slowly making its way through various states in the country, with Ohio possibly becoming the next legalized state. Every state’s legalization is unique, and the freedoms that come along with legalization vary. For example, Portland has public places where people can gather and smoke cannabis they brought with them; whereas, in Alaska, public consumption of marijuana may result in a $100 fine. Seattle has some excellent retailers and an inspiring industry. Though, there are three particulars in Seattle’s industry that I would love to see actioned.

We Really Need Public Spaces to Come Together and Smoke

High Above Seattle wrote an article about this before, but it is an important issue which deserves further recognition. Portland just opened its own public establishment where people can come to smoke together. Patrons bring their own cannabis to use and paraphernalia is provided by the establishment. This solves the issue of purchasing marijuana and having nowhere to consume it if you are a tourist, or if you live somewhere where you are not allowed to smoke indoors.

Tourists are very limited in where they can enjoy cannabis in Seattle. Really, everyone is limited. Sure, here you can buy weed online or at a local dispensary, but you’ll have to make sure you smoke it in the comfort of your home (or a friend’s). It would be wonderful to have a couple of businesses where people can meet up, much like they do at a bar, to enjoy cannabis together. This would not only help the industry, it would help individuals become acquainted with others who share interests and learn more about cannabis together.

The Freedom to Grow Cannabis at Home

In many respects, Washington is not as liberal as other legal states in regards to its cannabis laws. In Colorado, a household is allowed to grow up to six plants, with three flowering at a time. Home-growing in Seattle is illegal, due in part to the tight hold that the government wishes to have on the industry along with the fact that this could potentially facilitate easier black-market dealings.

Oregonians are also allowed to grow their own plants, four plants per residence to be precise. Washington also does not allow legal, large-scale growers to sell their own cannabis and are instead required to go through retailers; other legal states allow growers to sell, which helps growers profit even more.

Growing cannabis in your own home would be an excellent freedom in Washington.

No More Cannabis-Specific Drug Testing for Employment

When I first moved to Washington I was enamored by the industry and excited for employees who worked for employers who would have drug tested before cannabis was made legal, believing now those employees could smoke and no longer worry about keeping their job. When I relayed this excitement to friends here, they were quick to point out that employers are still allowed to drug test for cannabis use and not hire, or fire, an employee for failing. This can be a worry for those who use marijuana, or even just CBD. Although, there is now information available on how to pass a hair follicle drug test. Most users of the cannabinoid CBD are using it for medicinal reasons to, therefore, improve their general and work life, but there is always the concern that CBD could class as a fail for marijuana drug tests. If you’re someone who regularly uses CBD, you’ll need more information from sites like Veritas Farms concerning drug tests; if you’re a user of cannabis itself, there’s no doubt you’ll fail the test. There are a variety of variables that go into companies testing for cannabis. Unfortunately, it isn’t a flawless system and seems unfair at times. However, when it comes to making sense of the law regarding drug testing and cannabis, it’s important that you take it into consideration. Fortunately, if you’re a marijuana user, you can find information online or through your local dispensary that can help you to understand more about cannabis testing, what tests look for, and how the law applies to you. You can click here to learn more.

I know there aren’t too many employers who still test for cannabis use though some that do employ tons of people. I understand that much of the testing has to do with federal involvement, though it would be wonderful if those who live in a legal state did not have to worry about being punished for consuming cannabis. As of right now if they wanted to continue consuming cannabis they’d have to look into resources such as How to Pass A Drug Test – Health Street or other articles relating to trying to beat their employers’ test. This is definitely a complex issue that deserves more attention at a later time.

Basically, gaining more freedoms to consume cannabis and grow cannabis would make Washington a legality front-runner. Of course, living in a legal state is amazing in its own right. Though, if improvements can be made, why not address them and create further positive change?

What freedoms would you like to see in the Seattle cannabis industry? Let us know in the comments; we would love to hear what you have to say!
