Marijuana review: A night of baking and Seinfeld with The Goodship Company

July 20, 2015 By Ellie Klein

Marijuana review: A night of baking and Seinfeld with The Goodship Company

One of my favorite things to do is bake or cook something delicious while sipping a glass of wine and watching episodes of Seinfeld. I was hankering for a wind-down evening this weekend and decided that I would swap out the wine for a cannabis-infused edible. I had purchased a cookie by The Goodship Company recently and knew that would be the perfect addition to my evening since they are advertised to compliment a relaxed social setting, much like wine.

I took the Saigon cinnamon snickerdoodle cookie out of the hip packaging, gathered all that I would need to make banana bread muffins, and turned on season three of Seinfeld. After reading the cookie’s packaging, I decided to heed its recommendation and start with half of the cookie which contains 5mg. I preheated the oven, ate the first half of the cookie, and settled into shenanigans of the 90’s.

The cookie is soft and delicious. It smells of cinnamon and sugar and tastes like cinnamon apple. In fact, it tastes so much like cinnamon apple that I read the ingredients to see if any apples were added. No apples were added, so I am curious to know if anyone else tastes apples in the cinnamon snickerdoodle cookie. The Goodship Company uses the Cypress extraction method and ensures that each edible is consistent, so a person can expect the same high every time.

I whipped together the ingredients of the banana bread muffins and took my dog outside, before putting the muffins in the oven.

Earlier that day the weather was very hot, so I was avoiding much activity outdoors. Though, at about 8 o’clock there was a slight, cool breeze and a gorgeous sunset. My miniature schnauzer and I sat in the grass for a bit to enjoy the sights and I began to feel more relaxed, a sure sign that the cookie was taking effect. We mosied back inside and I dolloped banana bread batter into a muffin pan.

Now, I don’t know if you have ever watched Seinfeld after eating edibles; if you haven’t, I highly recommend it. Classic episodes, such as The Letter, are ridiculously entertaining. As the banana bread was baking, I sat on the couch and lost myself in analyzing Elaine, trying to figure out how she is so cool. Seriously, I would really love to be as cool as her.

The high was very pleasant and came on easy. It was reminiscent of a wine buzz, though more energetic. I was focused yet relaxed, which proved to me that a Goodship Company cookie really is a wonderful accompaniment to a social gathering. After the muffins were done baking, I threw together a tabbouleh salad for lunch the next day. This productive, plan-ahead preparation doesn’t normally happen when I just have a glass of wine, so I was thoroughly impressed with the high from the cookie. After the tabbouleh salad was complete, I loaded the dishwasher and sat down to enjoy a muffin and jump back into the hilarious show about nothing.

I couldn’t recommend a snickerdoodle Goodship Company cookie more. They are tasty and have such a relaxed, entertaining high which offers focus and social ease. Let us know if you have tried a cookie from The Goodship Company and what activities you were inspired to partake in. When a Goodship cookie is involved, you are guaranteed a good time.

Marijuana Edible Review: The Goodship Co. Chocolate Chip Cookie

Marijuana Edible Review: The Goodship Co. Chocolate Chip Cookie

All aboard The Goodship, a Seattle based producer of artisan marijuana edibles.  High Above Seattle got a chance to meet the folks behind The Goodship at Green-Theory’s VIP Event, and we snagged ourselves a sea salt chocolate chip cookie (for review purposes, of course).

First off, let’s talk about The Goodship: the founder, Jody Hall, is a renowned baker – and she owns Cupcake Royale (Seattle’s first [and most famous] cupcake bakery & cafe).  Hall partnered with the mad scientists over at Db3 (responsible for Zoots edibles and concentrates) – and the rest is history, delicious history.  Db3 uses their state-of-the-art equipment to bring you Hall’s vision of an artisan, potent, provocative recreational marijuana cookie.

At the moment, there are 2 products available in I-502 stores – the sea salt chocolate chip cookie, and the saigon cinnamon snickerdoodle cookie.  Coming soon, though, are chocolate bars: coffee & dark chocolate, and deep dark chocolate.

The Goodship Company packaging front

Looking at packaging, The Goodship has a focus on seemingly steampunk oriented travel.  The sea salt chocolate chip cookie has a gold viking-esque ship emblazoned on the front, whilst other packages include hot air balloons, submarines, and some sort of funky zephyr.

We’ve touched on The Goodship’s intuitive, elegant and friendly art before – but it’s worth mentioning that having an iconic feel to your products is just as important as having a memorable name.  Hall & Db3 definitely accomplished both prerogatives, in that they have a cool name, and lovely art to go alongside.

The-Goodship-Company-packaging-back

On the back of the package, there is a little notice: This is your Captain speaking.  We recommend starting with a half serving to responsibly reach cruising altitude.  Overdoing it can spoil the ride.  A good tip of new comers, but I went ahead and ate the whole thing.  It was 10mg of THC, and for me it was just the right amount.

The-Goodship-Company-Seattle-cookie

As you can see from the photos – the cookies are a perfect toasty brown.  The sea salt is delicately present, and adds a second level of crunch to the consistency.  All and all it is a small cookie, don’t expect to fill up on one of these.

The taste is (obviously) that of a cookie, but with a slight hint of THC in there.  The sea salt plays nicely with the sweetness, reminding me of Fleur de Sel Caramels.  Taking a gander at the ingredients, it’s clear that quality is important – I also was happy to see that there was non-GMO corn syrup used.  I’d imagine in the coming months that we might see organic and vegan edibles emerging.

After I ate the cookie, we went to see Avengers: Age of Ultron.  Eating a weed cookie is the perfect solution to going to a movie, because the high keeps coming even halfway through.  If you smoke before a movie then you’ve got to endure the lines, previews, and whatnot all at the apex of your high… by the time the movie actually starts, you’re burnt out!  But with edibles, the timing is right on.

The Goodship Company postcard

Of course, seeing a movie wouldn’t be my only choice of activity.  Looking at this postcard I got from The Goodship, I’d like to be sitting out with my feet in the water, enjoying the sun as a panorama of mountains surrounds me.  Then a magical steampunk zephyr-ship comes by and drops me a ladder, ushering me to the highest of highs.  There is a whale, too!

Do yourself a favor, and sample this potent, decadent treat today.  The Goodship products can be found at many I-502 retailers in Seattle, King County, and Washington state.

Cookies, the new pot brownies?

April 20, 2015 By Ellie Klein

Cookies, the new pot brownies?

Years ago, when someone said that they were going to consume edibles, the first thing that came to mind was that they were going to eat brownies. “Pot brownies” have been a staple in the world of edibles for years, though they are quickly being matched by other sweet treats. If the current marijuana edibles’ market is any indication, pot cookies are quickly becoming the next big thing. Making brownies like this requires people to use their favorite strain such as the stars of death edible to make it as enjoyable as they want.

The marijuana market is just like any other market: If a product is selling well, then more of that product will appear on the market from differing producers. Cookies have proven to be a very interesting and successful edible to sell. Cookies are a step away from the stereotype that goes along with infused brownies, making them appealing to more experienced consumers, those looking for a different edible experience, or moms who want to bring edibles to a dinner party. Infused cookies are more sophisticated and versatile in terms of look and flavor. Consumers can purchase thumbprint tea cookies that go great with a casual, social ambiance, or opt for a traditional favorite like chocolate chip. If you want to check out whether or not your local dispensaries stock delicious edibles then you might want to look up a fl dispensaries list or something similar. Who knows, they might have something nice in store just waiting for you!

Legalization of recreational marijuana in Washington has been met with delicious and unique cookie flavors from many producers. In particular, there are three producers that sell infused cookies and are taking them to new levels with interesting marketing, names, flavors, and targeted demographics. The Goodship Company, Spot, and Winterlife are three local edible companies which produce visually and physically appealing infused cookies and packaging.

Spot Cannabis Cookies Seattle

If you are looking for an infused cookie that highlights the flavor and texture of the cookie rather than the cannabis taste, you don’t have to look further than Spot. The edibles company strives to be a bakery first, ensuring that the products taste delicious and the high is a pleasant addition. The company creates traditionally prepared house-made cannabutter and uses tried-and-true recipes for its baked goods.

Spot has a soft cookie that contains 10 mg of THC which is a generous dose for a pleasant time (offered in both sativa and indica). Spot also offers a 5mg chocolate chip and oatmeal raisin cookies for those who want a lesser dose of potency. Spot prides itself in offering multiple potency, recipes, and producing both sativa and indica infused products.

Winterlife cannabis cookies Seattle

The majority of edibles are made with dairy, which ostracizes those following a vegan diet. Winterlife only produces edibles that are vegan-friendly, local, ethical and organic when possible, so, vegans and environmentalists, look no further! Winterlife’s cookies are bite-sized and come in packs of singles or threes. Remember those thumb-print cookies topped with jam that your grandmother likely made? Winterlife has them, and they are perfect. They are called “Spotted Skunk’s Strawberry Jam Cookies,” and are as lovely as they are buttery and delicious. The company also caters to traditional flavors with its peanut butter cookies and chocolate chip cookies.

The Goodship Company is a unique edibles producer because its targeted demographic is adults who consumed marijuana years ago and have decided to give the plant another try. The cookies made by The Goodship Company do not contain a high dosage and are meant to be a subtle compliment to an adult dinner party, much like a glass of wine. There are two flavors available: sea-salt chocolate chip, and Saigon cinnamon snickerdoodle. However, if you prefer taking edibles that tend to be infused with pharmaceutical-grade medical marijuana, then you could go for something like mary’s edibles.

Each of these companies bring professionalism and unique products to the edibles industry of Washington. There really is something for everyone in the local edibles industry. If you are new to edibles and unsure of where to start, give one of these products a try! You will not be disappointed. Are there some infused cookies on the market that you can’t get enough of and would like to see featured? Let us know!

Local Pioneering Women in Marijuana [Part 1]

Local Pioneering Women in Marijuana [Part 1]

Women business owners are not all that common in the business aspect of the recreational marijuana industry, but they are so incredibly important to the movement. Women are pioneering unique energy and ideas in the local cannabis industry. They are able to access hemp banking to keep their businesses financially stable and correct. So many memorable details exist because a woman thought of them and brought them to life. From packaging to how a business is run, women are masterminds in the industry. International Women’s Month is coming to a close, so what better time to recognize some women business owners in the marijuana industry and all that they are doing to make it better?

If you think about it, women belong in the industry. Female marijuana plants are the most prized of the lot, and according to Tara Green with Ganja Goddess, this makes women a natural and necessary addition to the growing and selling processes. Women also bring feminine energy to all aspects of the marijuana business, and their presence is growing along with the blossoming industry. Women’s roles and energy throughout history translate into the impact that women have on marijuana today. Getting into the marijuana business can be very lucrative, from marijuana seeds for sale to marijuana edibles, there are many different ways your business can garner a profit in this sector and bringing women into this makes it more inclusive for all to take part.

Even if you are not a history buff, women’s roles in past societies are evident. Take, for example, video games. When your character visits a mysterious, yet powerful healer, the healer is often a woman. This is no coincidence. When asked to describe the energy that women bring to the industry, Tara links women’s influence in the industry to their healing nature. Women have an amazing ability to tune into healing methods that influence the body and mind in positive ways. So, it is only natural that women would understand, and be very good at, fine-tuning processes and strands to better help consumers. This energy also helps women to be drawn to each other, which aids in marketing and other consumer relations.

Women do not purchase or consume cannabis as often as men do. However, this statistic will likely change at some point in the future due to women’s growing involvement in the business. and from their intent to market to women specifically. Much of this involvement and marketing is noticeable, like with packaging. For example, The Goodship Company, which is run by Jody Hall, features gold hot air balloons and Viking ships on its edibles’ packaging. This in itself is appealing to women because it brings an elegant, yet hip flair to the logo. This approach is inviting and the fact that the company is run by a woman is instantly relatable for women.

Tara emphasized the profoundly positive influence that marijuana has on the life of women. It improves women’s quality of life, from intimacy to concentration. There are so many positives that including cannabis in everyday life just makes sense. .

Women’s involvement in the industry is certainly changing the course of marijuana in Seattle, for the better. The feminine edge is a very welcome addition and will do much more than just make the packaging more soft or elegant. It is and will continue to change the way that marijuana is grown, cared for and sold. It will change the main demographic of smokers from predominantly men to an equal ratio of men and women. Women are amazing and to see them become such key players in Seattle’s cannabis industry is seeing an important part of history in the making.

Be sure to thank the next woman you see who is involved in a marijuana business. Not only would she appreciate it, she deserves it!

7 Impressive Marijuana Packaging Designs [New Edition]

7 Impressive Marijuana Packaging Designs [New Edition]

Clever marketing and eye-catching packaging are two important details to consider when trying to sell a product. This is why businesses spend so long deciding on their logo – because the logo represents the whole brand and therefore has a major input on all of the businesses marketing and branding. As a new business, it’s important that you perfect your logo before you officially start up.

With all of that in mind, growers opt for impressive packaging to appeal to consumers. Many use companies that specialize in custom boxes design so that they can create packaging that really stands out. With marijuana becoming more mainstream and with more companies trying to sell similar products, packaging could be the difference between a successful and unsuccessful business. This is even more important if you decide to open up your own vape shop through a company similar to vaporfi. From edibles to flowers, the marijuana products found on Seattle shelves are impressive and fun. Following are seven of High Above Seattle’s current favorite retail marijuana packaging designs.
