Not one, but two: One year anniversary weed celebrations this weekend!

October 15, 2015 By Manic Conrad

When it rains, it parties. This weekend, two recreational marijuana stores will celebrate their one-year anniversaries so be sure to come and celebrate with us! It doesn’t matter if you prefer to use crumble wax, pens, pipes, or tinctures, it doesn’t matter – we just want to thank you for supporting the businesses! Both stores will celebrate at different times so you can attend both if you want.

Happy Birthday Uncle Ike's

‘Happy Birthday Uncle Ike’ is coined to be an ‘epic party.’ Spot (edibles), Fairwinds (tinctures), X-tracted (premium concentrates), Trail Blazin‘ (flower), and Avitas (flower and concentrates) will all be on site. Live entertainment includes: DJ sets, fire-eating clowns, food trucks, vendor exhibits, kettlecorn, and a fortune teller. And if that’s not enough, there will be a mechanical joint that you can ride!

Oh, and the newly remodeled Uncle Ike’s Glass & Goods will have it’s grand reopening. Shoppers will save 10% off all regularly priced items in BOTH SHOPS, and 5% of all sales during the event will benefit Planned Parenthood.

The party begins October 17 at noon and ends at 4pm. For more info, click here.

Sponsors include: Vuber, Ethos Extracts, Jackpot Seaweed, Artizen, X-tracted, Juju Joints, Zoots, The Goodship Co., Liberty Reach, Monkey Grass, Lucid, and Sub-X.

Creative Brilliance Award for September 2015: Sitka Gold

September 25, 2015 By Manic Conrad

Sitka Cannabis Cigarettes

(This months Creative Brilliance Award goes to local Seattle company, Sitka. The Creative Brilliance Award is awarded every month to a local company or business who brings some flair, pizazz, and/or fun into our unique and special industry.)

Stay gold, our friends. Very gold.

If you have seen some gold glitter through your favorite store’s display cases, or hanging on the wall behind the register, chances are it is a cannabis product from none other than Sitka. This local Seattle cannabis company produces 100% all natural and additive free cannabis cigarettes and then packages it in ‘bling bling.’ There’s no fools gold here, it’s all ‘bling bling.’

Sitka Cannabis Cigarettes

Sitka claims to be the originator of the first cannabis cigarette. A printed piece of paper within the tin of joints says so. They also claim that this idea originated in the dark corner of a bar in the Ballard Neighborhood circa 2012.

Not only is their packaging and branding absolutely fresh for the cannabis cigarettes; but it is the little details like the dotted line, that suggests where to slide your finger nail in order to tear the label, and open the lid to access the product.

In addition to cannabis cigarettes, Sitka insists that they have the finest hashish in the United States. Without further adieu, we award Sitka the Creative Brilliance Award for September 2015.

Wiz Khalifa signs autographs while smoking a joint

August 2, 2015 By Manic Conrad

Wiz Khalifa Uncle Ike's Pot Shop

Wiz Khalifa, known for his rap and smoking copious amounts of marijuana, made an appearance at Uncle Ike’s Pot Shop today. Representing his Wiz Khalifa branded Raw Rolling Papers, fans in the hundreds lined up to meet and greet the entertainment icon. Apache 6 security was on site doing what they do best (keeping everything in order and everybody safe), and doing it well. Check out the video from Uncle Ike’s Pot Shop Instagram.

No surprise here. Wiz is holding a writing utensil in one hand, and a joint in another.

Marijuana Edible Review: Winterlife Cannabis Almonds, A Jurassic Experience

June 15, 2015 By Ellie Klein

Winterlife Cannabis Garden Herb Grizzly's Heavenly marijuana review

Winterlife Cannabis has been on my edible’s radar for quite some time. Especially since, the company produces vegan, organic when possible, locally crafted edibles.

I originally intended to try one of the company’s cookies, which come with fun names and flavorful ingredients. However, I had had way more sugar than I normally do in the days leading up to my review, so I was pleasantly surprised when I discovered that Uncle Ike’s Pot Shop in Capitol Hill was out of Winterlife Cannabis cookies but had three different flavors of infused almonds in stock. After a budtender’s recommendation, I decided to purchase a 10mg package of Grizzly’s Heavenly Garden Herb almonds.

Incredibly satisfied with my purchase, I caught the bus home. I had a date planned that night to go see Jurrasic World with my fiance and was excited to face an island of dinosaurs with a pleasant buzz and Sour Patch Kids. I think it is important to note that, prior to these almonds, the last time I consumed edibles was in college–in Kansas–where marijuana is still illegal and most people do not portion cannabis properly when preparing edibles. I was hesitant about becoming too high since I completely overdid it during my last experience and I am not positive about my tolerance level. In lieu of this, I ate four almonds and waited. After no effect, I decided to eat a little over half the pack.

The high hit me right when the movie started. I became one with my chair and was immediately immersed in the movie. I was heavily invested from the start, and the almonds are to credit for that (I am not one to pay close attention to movies). When the climax of the film surfaced I was wide-eyed and grinning like a goon. Also, kudos to the movie for tastefully tying into Jurrasic Park; the nostalgia was a wonderful addition.

My favorite part of the high was my hyper focus mixed with comfortable body relaxation. I mean, I could not have been more thrilled and calm at the same time about a T-Rex-hybrid-beast-thing screaming in my face. The almonds are classified as a hybrid and definitely induce the best of both worlds. I would say that the blend that I ate was more Indica heavy since the body relaxation was more prominent than any mental enhancement. On top of my great movie experience, that night was also some of the best sleep I have had in a long time, which solidified my devotion to Winterlife Cannabis’ wonderful almonds.

A little review about the almonds themselves: the seasoning on the garden herb variety is absolutely delicious. Each almond is covered and flavorful. The almonds were very fresh and snapped when bit into. The seasoning did not leave any residue on my fingers which I was delightfully impressed by. I enjoyed them so much that I plan on adopting them into my blossoming edible consumption.

If you have yet to see Jurrasic World, I highly recommend enjoying some Winterlife Cannabis almonds before the show. They are a wonderful accompaniment to an island full of Jurassic-era beasts and two hours of staring at the beautiful Chris Pratt. Seriously.

Let us know if you went to see this new thriller armed with some edibles. We would love to hear about your experience!

Could Tok and ‘Uncle Ike’s II,’ be Seattle’s ‘Boardwalk’ and ‘Park Place’?

June 3, 2015 By Manic Conrad

Monopoly Boardwalk

15th Avenue. This quiet and quaint little avenue on top of Capitol Hill, is home to many small businesses including restaurants, cafes, coffee shops, grocery stores, and bars. Not much happens here expect for a tiny flurry of nightlife during the weekend.

But this could all change with the inclusion of two recreational marijuana stores. Capitolhillseattle.com does an excellent job covering how Tok, is set to take over Angel’s Shoe Repair shop, which already has an eviction notice on the storefront; and Ian Eisenberg of Uncle Ike’s, which has confirmed plans to build another pot shop in place of a former veterinary clinic.

Capitol Hill is the most densely populated residential district in Seattle. It is also without a single pot shop. Not only this is surprising because of the number of residents that would benefit from a pot shop nearby, but because of its’ historical counter culture status – a pot shop here just makes sense.

One of the main reasons why there aren’t any recreational marijuana stores in Capitol Hill is because of the 1000ft. rule, which keeps them away from places where children frequent such as schools, arcades, parks, daycares. Because of this, there aren’t many places on the hill where a legal cannabis shop is allowed to open. Which makes 15th Avenue NE, prime real estate.

Does this make Tok and a possible ‘Uncle Ikes II,’ Seattle’s version of Monopoly’s ‘Boardwalk’ and ‘Park Place?’ What do you think of two recreational marijuana stores so close to each other on the avenue? How much of an upper hand will Ian Eisenberg’s new shop have in terms of branding, if it was to be called Uncle Ike’s II?
