Return of Winterlife Cooperative?; Marijuana Pipe in Action at Cannabis City, Rick Steves on Tour Again & More!

UPDATE: Winterlife has indeed returned, They are known as Winterlife Cannabis and make cannabis-infused cookies. Look for them in Seattle marijuana stores.

Return of Winterlife Cooperative?

The nationally infamous local marijuana delivery service who once made many of us happy by delivering grey-area recreational cannabis to our doorsteps, are getting ready to make a comeback, in a legal retail store near you!

According to their website, Winterlife Cooperative has shut down their medical marijuana delivery business, just months after transitioning from the recreational grey-area side of things. They are preparing for their debut later this fall. This is exciting for us as we were a big fan of their cannabis, but their packaging as well! Check out their site for more info.

Bellevue’s First Recreational Marijuana Store Opens

Green Theory, Bellevue’s first legal retail store has finally opened. With only two Seattle recreational stores open, this shop provides a possible alternative. The shop offers a cannabis club membership with rewards program and express check out.

Avitas Agriculture Shows Off Fresh Clean Packaging

Avitas Agriculture Shows Off Fresh Clean Packaging

Refreshing. A while ago we wrote about the importance of packaging design and how it caps off and helps captivate the buyers experience. Especially, when it’s something that was once taboo and with such a colorful history as cannabis.

The packaging design of a product, the design of an interior, or design of anything should not be taken lightly as all the pieces as little as they may seem, help to shape the industry as a whole and add color to it. Not only have we used the marijuana industry in Amsterdam as an example, but we have shown early signs of cannabis businesses and establishments in Seattle (and the surrounding areas) adding a little extra effort to help create an image.

For example, the Amsterdam themed farmers market in Lake City, the Green Lion Farms sticker wall in the employee lounge, the soon to be Legal beverages from Mirth Provisions, and the cannabis packaging from the once recreational Winterlife Cooperative delivery service.

So, yes, it was refreshing for us to see some effort by Avitas Agriculture to help make our industry even more colorful. Enjoy.

C’mon Seattle, Can We Make this Fun!?

C’mon Seattle, Can We Make this Fun!?

The first time I purchased a marijuana joint ‘semi-legally’ was in 2003 when I visited Amsterdam for the first time. It was a cool and interesting experience to purchase a joint in a colorful packaging, similar to how an ‘action figure’ is packaged…plastic bubble and all. It’s this sort of thing that helps create an impression and make an experience memorable. Think about the times you purchased a micro brew or bottle of wine based on the label.

Even the former Seattle recreational grey area delivery service, Winterlife Cooperative, understood the importance of creating an impression through design with their nifty little packages. So many customers would comment and make note of the packaging. Winterlife was doing things right but were seemingly pressured out of the recreational industry.

The ‘Legal’ brand by Mirth Provisions has created a lot of buzz in the media. Check out the stellar brand and packaging design of their cannabis infused beverages.

So, if we are going to wait an hour in line to purchase cannabis, at least give us something colorful to look at. Producers, are you listening?!

When In Doubt, Go Medical! ‘Winterlife’ Surprises Customers and Bolts

When In Doubt, Go Medical! ‘Winterlife’ Surprises Customers and Bolts

UPDATE: Winterlife Coop is now Winterlife Cannabis and sells pot-infused vegan cookies. You can find them at marijuana stores in Seattle.

Earlier this year, the Winterlife Cooperative – a Seattle recreational marijuana delivery service – had plans to transition into a I-502 retail marijuana store if there were too many obstacles to face with their delivery business model. According to Wombat, a delivery driver with the company, ‘they had a retail location ready to go if they were forced to abandon the recreational delivery service model.’ This was well before any I-502 retail marijuana licenses were issued and all the wrinkles ironed out (or most of them, anyways.)

By the looks of it, their plans will not come to fruition, and the pressure to change their business model was too great. According to the Seattle Times blog, the Winterlife Cooperative will be closed for the next couple of days while they transition their business model to only serve medical marijuana patients only (which is not exactly legal either, but less regulation.) And at least they have this as an option – you can see that on this page some states, like Florida, aren’t even allowed to issue medical marijuana cards. We sure are grateful to be in Seattle when we’re reminded of this!

Recently, we figured this pot delivery service could be raking in up to $50,000 per day. By transitioning to the medical marijuana side of the industry, this could have a huge impact on their earnings.

What do you think of these turn of events? Are you going to miss Winterlife? Do you think other delivery services will follow their footsteps?

The Winterlife Cooperative Marijuana Delivery Service Experience

May 9, 2014 By Manic Conrad 2 Comments

The Winterlife Cooperative Marijuana Delivery Service Experience

UPDATE: The Winterlife Cooperative marijuana delivery service is no longer available. But, they are now producing Winterlife Cannabis brand recreational marijuana edibles. You can purchase these legal edibles at Seattle pot stores.

I first heard about the Winterlife Cooperative several months ago. It must have been The Stranger article that introduced me to this grey area Seattle marijuana delivery service. A few days later I checked out their website and briefly admired their online menu. Less than a week after that, a sedan was parked in front of my apartment. I put on my jacket, exited the door, and sprinted towards the car in the cold January rain. Marijuana delivery services are still a grey area in many parts of the United States. However, for the dispensaries who deliver, their customers can trust that they are using the best last mile delivery software to ensure that they receive their orders quickly and without issue.

The Meeting(s)

Generally, I do not enter the vehicle of a complete stranger. Movies taught me that nothing ever good comes out of it. Especially, when the strangers name is Wombat. But Wombat seemed fairly normal when I spoke to him 30 minutes prior on the phone. The bottom line is, I was about to score some weed, delivered somewhat legally to my front door; so this was definitely worth the risk of some lunatic stranger kidnapping me and taking me back to a torture chamber!

5 minutes later Wombat and I were hanging out in his Sedan, joking around, fist bumping, and talking about weed. It was almost like we skipped being friends and became best friends! It’s not exactly how it happened, but you get the idea.

Wombat, who appeared to be in his young 20’s, had been a Winterlife delivery driver for roughly 2 months. According to him, this was by far the best job he has ever had. At his age, I couldn’t imagine him working more than a handful of jobs that didn’t include a shift at a fast food restaurant, landscaping, or gas station attendant; so I was hardly surprised. But, making someone’s day brighter by delivering marijuana to their door has to be pretty rewarding!

Our conversation evolved into the legalities, or the illegalities, of marijuana delivery services in Seattle. As a resident of Washington State, it is legal for me to purchase up to an ounce of cannabis, as long as I am 21 years of age. Technically, it is not legal for the Winterlife Cooperative to deliver weed. As I said, it’s a grey area in some parts of the USA. Obviously, for dispensaries that can deliver legally with no issues they may run into, there’s no doubt that they’ll use companies like Tenstreet to help with truck/delivery driver rules and legalities. However, since there is no marijuana retail industry in place, authorities have decided to turn a blind eye. In fact, according to Wombat, they are working closely with the Seattle Police Department.

Wombat was very knowledgeable about the weed he delivered and gave me multiple suggestions based on the type of highs I enjoy the most. The problem was, I couldn’t decide if I wanted an uplifting high or a body high. I decided on a hybrid known as Diesel Cookies. During the entire process, Wombat was very patient and respectful of my indecisiveness even though he had customers waiting on him.

About a month after my marijuana delivery experience with Wombat, a dude by the name of Wolverine parked in front of my apartment. No, the parents of these young men weren’t trying to be different when they named their children, nor did they grow up in communes in the middle of the forest; it just so happens that Winterlife gives out pseudo names to protect the identities of the delivery drivers. In fact, all Winterlife delivery drivers are named after critters.

The Winterlife Cooperative Wolverine

“Wolverine” displaying the goods

A little older than Wombat, the flannel wearing Wolverine was just as nice and courteous. He even seemed a little bit more knowledgeable about cannabis. This time I was decisive, and desired an uplifting high. Wolverine warned me of some sativa strains that could cause paranoia and directed me towards the popular Sour Haze. Wolverine was on a tight schedule and in a hurry to make other deliveries, so our meeting was rather short.

So, How Was the Weed?

I’m a sucker for cookies so naturally I was really looking forward to the taste of Diesel Cookies. Especially, when I read on Winterlife’s online menu ,that Diesel cookies tasted like girl scout cookies. At first, I was a little disappointed. The taste of cookies was very weak and almost non-existent. But the more I smoked, the more I could taste the cookies.

With that said, if the only reason I smoke weed is to taste cookies, then what the heck am I smoking weed for?! Besides, If I want to taste cookies I can just go to the store next door. Which is where I went anyways, once I got the munchies.

Diesel Cookies is an interesting hybrid. One minute, the Sativa in the hybrid would make me jump out of the couch and look for something to do. But the next minute, I would retreat to the couch and surrender to the Indica. Push and pull. Back and forth. Over and over. Interestingly enough, it was very representative of my indecisiveness when I purchased the strain.

Overall, I am not a big fan of Diesel Cookies. And believe me, I really wanted to be. In fact, I would try days on end to really enjoy the strain. But if takes work to like something, then you probably don’t really like it.

diesel cookies

On the other hand, the Sour Haze was probably one of the best strains of marijuana I have ever smoked. The high was super mellow, very clear, and uplifting. While some connosieurs may find this strain to be a little weak, I thought it was a perfect potency. Even though it was a sativa, I would smoke it an hour before I went to bed and still have little trouble falling asleep.

This strain of marijuana is perfect to smoke in the morning to get a soft early buzz or late in the afternoon right before heading out for a walk. The Sour Haze is now one of my “go to” strains of marijuana that I like to keep around. I will always continue to sample other strains, but this one has a permanent home in the bud bunker.

In Conclusion

I am a big fan of this Seattle marijuana delivery service. I like the northwest outdoorsy critter concept, they have quality cannabis, and they give back to the community by donating to local charities. They are also providing me a safe and convenient way to purchase marijuana legally, even though the retail industry has not officially opened. As long as the authorities allow this operation to continue, which is uncertain, I will continue to support.
