Cookies, the new pot brownies?

April 20, 2015 By Ellie Klein Leave a Comment

Cookies, the new pot brownies?

Years ago, when someone said that they were going to consume edibles, the first thing that came to mind was that they were going to eat brownies. “Pot brownies” have been a staple in the world of edibles for years, though they are quickly being matched by other sweet treats. If the current marijuana edibles’ market is any indication, pot cookies are quickly becoming the next big thing. Making brownies like this requires people to use their favorite strain such as the stars of death edible to make it as enjoyable as they want.

The marijuana market is just like any other market: If a product is selling well, then more of that product will appear on the market from differing producers. Cookies have proven to be a very interesting and successful edible to sell. Cookies are a step away from the stereotype that goes along with infused brownies, making them appealing to more experienced consumers, those looking for a different edible experience, or moms who want to bring edibles to a dinner party. Infused cookies are more sophisticated and versatile in terms of look and flavor. Consumers can purchase thumbprint tea cookies that go great with a casual, social ambiance, or opt for a traditional favorite like chocolate chip. If you want to check out whether or not your local dispensaries stock delicious edibles then you might want to look up a fl dispensaries list or something similar. Who knows, they might have something nice in store just waiting for you!

Legalization of recreational marijuana in Washington has been met with delicious and unique cookie flavors from many producers. In particular, there are three producers that sell infused cookies and are taking them to new levels with interesting marketing, names, flavors, and targeted demographics. The Goodship Company, Spot, and Winterlife are three local edible companies which produce visually and physically appealing infused cookies and packaging.

If you are looking for an infused cookie that highlights the flavor and texture of the cookie rather than the cannabis taste, you don’t have to look further than Spot. The edibles company strives to be a bakery first, ensuring that the products taste delicious and the high is a pleasant addition. The company creates traditionally prepared house-made cannabutter and uses tried-and-true recipes for its baked goods.

Spot has a soft cookie that contains 10 mg of THC which is a generous dose for a pleasant time (offered in both sativa and indica). Spot also offers a 5mg chocolate chip and oatmeal raisin cookies for those who want a lesser dose of potency. Spot prides itself in offering multiple potency, recipes, and producing both sativa and indica infused products.

The majority of edibles are made with dairy, which ostracizes those following a vegan diet. Winterlife only produces edibles that are vegan-friendly, local, ethical and organic when possible, so, vegans and environmentalists, look no further! Winterlife’s cookies are bite-sized and come in packs of singles or threes. Remember those thumb-print cookies topped with jam that your grandmother likely made? Winterlife has them, and they are perfect. They are called “Spotted Skunk’s Strawberry Jam Cookies,” and are as lovely as they are buttery and delicious. The company also caters to traditional flavors with its peanut butter cookies and chocolate chip cookies.

The Goodship Company is a unique edibles producer because its targeted demographic is adults who consumed marijuana years ago and have decided to give the plant another try. The cookies made by The Goodship Company do not contain a high dosage and are meant to be a subtle compliment to an adult dinner party, much like a glass of wine. There are two flavors available: sea-salt chocolate chip, and Saigon cinnamon snickerdoodle. However, if you prefer taking edibles that tend to be infused with pharmaceutical-grade medical marijuana, then you could go for something like mary’s edibles.

Each of these companies bring professionalism and unique products to the edibles industry of Washington. There really is something for everyone in the local edibles industry. If you are new to edibles and unsure of where to start, give one of these products a try! You will not be disappointed. Are there some infused cookies on the market that you can’t get enough of and would like to see featured? Let us know!

Winterlife Cannabis

Winterlife Cannabis

When Winterlife Cannabis decided to ends its recreational marijuana delivery service last summer the coop was sorely missed by its thousand plus customers. However, Winterlife has been reborn as a recreational processor, and its first batch of concentrated cannabis extracts and edibles began arriving in recreational stores over the last couple of weeks. We spoke with Evan Cox about the transition from running a delivery service to becoming a processor, their experiences operating under the recreational marijuana bureaucracy, and what Winterlife has planned for the future.

For those who are not familiar with the former delivery service and to give a more in-depth recap: Winterlife was originally a wildly popular recreational marijuana delivery operation that received national media attention for the service it was providing. The delivery service operated in the legal gray area that existed after recreational marijuana was legalized, but before there were any legal retail stores open where adults could purchase pot.

Winterlife created what they described as a ‘legally defensible strategy of distribution’ by only selling to adults who would legally be allowed to be in possession of recreational pot, and quickly gained a reputation for their quick delivery of high quality product. In addition, their drivers, all of whom assumed animal based pseudonyms like Badger or Wombat, were known for their professionalism, and the operation grew rapidly, employing over 60 people towards the end and turning a tidy profit for Winterlife.

We asked Evan about how the process of transitioning from a delivery service to a processor has been, and he told us that while Winterlife was already experienced with packaging ready to consume cannabis products and was able to transition into the day-to-day work of processing products, it was not an simple process.“It was extremely difficult. Unlike many of the delivery companies that popped up in the wake of Winterlife’s success we had always planned on transitioning into the legal market. This meant that once stores started opening up, our ‘job’ of filling a void where the state hadn’t provided any safe access to legal cannabis to adult citizens had effectively ended.“

Evan also pointed out the heavily reduced profit margins that resulted from the transition, which were compounded by the current regulations and taxes that are levied against recreational marijuana processors and retail stores. He candidly explained “The individuals working at the Liquor Control Board are trying as hard as they can but Washington State has set them up for many more failures to come. The licensing system strings licensees along from one requirement to the next and the people prior and aft have no clue what this one does and so on. Much of the information you’d require to anticipate your operations isn’t disseminated until you already need to know. It’s a real mess right now.”

While Winterlife is experiencing more than its fair share of its frustration as it makes the transition to becoming a fully legal processor, Evan remains optimistic for the future of recreational cannabis. He ended our conversation on a positive note, stating “I think that those of us who can weather the storm of initial bureaucracy will do well from and for the future of this industry with the potential for some of us to do extremely well, but there is definitely a lot of hard work for narrow margins ahead. Right now it is very much a numbers game.”

Winterlife currently has three vegan friendly cookie varieties, honey oils and pre-rolled cones available at local recreational stores. Evan also told us about all the excellent sounding products Winterlife has planned for the future, such as infused nuts and chocolate raspberries and possibly peanut butter pretzels. In addition, they are hard at work developing a new infused beverage and will release a new exclusive ethanol extracted shatter, a stable concentrate that can be smoked or vaporized.

UPDATE: You can find Winterlife Cannabis products in Seattle marijuana stores.

Do The Math: Is This Seattle Marijuana Delivery Service Raking in $50,000 A Day?

Do The Math: Is This Seattle Marijuana Delivery Service Raking in $50,000 A Day?

UPDATE: marijuana delivery services are no longer allowed but you can purchase legally at Seattle marijuana stores. Winterlife Coop is no longer in operation and has converted to a recreational producer known as Winterlife Cannabis.

Another article about the Winterlife Cooperative, a Seattle marijuana delivery service, this time with a little more transparency. According to KomoNews.com, Winterlife employs roughly 50 individuals, about 30 of them are delivery drivers. In addition, the operators answer 400-600 delivery call per day.

Say what!?

The minimum order for marijuana delivery from Winterlife is $50. We know that not everyone is going to just pay the minimum. Especially since, many of the prepackaged 7 gram packages sell between $80-100. But let’s be conservative and say that everyone who orders spends $75 on average. And let’s make the number of daily calls 500, the average of 400-600. Conservatively, they could be raking in $37,500 per day.

But, we think the average amount each customer spends is closer to $100. If we were correct, Winterlife could be pulling in  whopping $50,000 a day!

Seattle Gets a New Recreational Marijuana Delivery Service

Seattle Gets a New Recreational Marijuana Delivery Service

UPDATE: The Winterlife Coop no longer delivers. They are now Winterlife Cannabis and make marijuana infused edibles. You can purchase this from Seattle marijuana stores.

Competition is always good. Especially when you are the customer, kicking back on your couch, mulling over online menus of cannabis, and deciding which marijuana delivery in Seattle you would like to stop by your place. You are now officially spoiled.

Seattle now has not 1, not 2, but 3 delivery services that only cater to the recreational cannabis crowd (The Winterlife Coop and Club Raccoons being the other two). And we are still more than 2 months away from the industry being officially legit. Long story short, it seems that local law enforcement authorities are content with turning a blind eye and letting these “grey area” businesses operate.

After pasting the city with flyers and promos earlier this month, ATM Delivery Service revved its’ engines and started delivering weed in the Emerald City. And they seem to be gaining a following fairly quickly. Just yesterday, they had roughly 100 followers on their Twitter page. Early this afternoon, the same page now shows more than 400 Twitter followers.

What really stands out, is the fact they offer a 3 tier monthly membership ranging in price from $9.95 a month (Bronze Membership) to $19.95 a month (Gold Membership). For example, if you purchase the Gold Membership you will receive: 4 eights of top shelf bud (per month), 4 free medibles (per month), 2 t shirts, id card, and VIP to member events.

Currently, ATM delivery service is catering to the following areas: Capital Hill, Queen Anne, South Lake Union, U-District, Eastlake, Downtown, First Hill,  Montlake, Shoreline, Lake City, Maple Leaf, Crown Hill,  Central District, Magnolia, Bitter Lake, Greenwood, Phinney, Wallingford,  Ravenna, Greenlake, Ballard, Northgate etc.

UPDATE: I just got a hold of the ATM Delivery service founder Art Euro. If you have tried to call and schedule a delivery, you may have reached an answering machine instead. Currently they have only 2 drivers and have been absolutely slammed with orders.

If you want to make some extra cash, they are currently looking for marijuana delivery drivers. They operate in the same fashion as the Lyft ride share program. Call Art Euro at: 1-844-420-1212 for more information and safe driving!
