Marijuana Review: Dutch Treat by Happy Valley Farms

August 12, 2015 By Fischer Campbell

Sometimes you’ve got to treat yo’ self, it’s gonna happen.  I figure that if you’re going to treat yourself, it’s all the better if consumable (or smokeable).  Why clutter your space with another thing?  Clear those cobwebs in your attic with Dutch Treat, available at Fremont recreational cannabis shop #Hashtag (on Stone Way, between Seattle neighborhood’s: Fremont and Wallingford).  Great vibe in the store, and excellent deals on herb.

Dutch Treat is from Happy Valley Farms, whose catch phrase is “Bee Happy… Naturally!” (more on the buzz later).  Environmental consciousness is important to the Bellingham producer; they harvest their herb using LED lighting, which cuts electricity consumption in half (according to their website).

It’d be nice to know more about Happy Valley Farms, and hopefully they will update their site in the near future. Regardless, I can assure you the product is potent.  Those bees are doing something right.

The reason I’m making a big deal about bees is because there is a giant one staring at me from the packaging.  This is the kind of stuff I wish they had on their website, some background on what the bees mean.  If they have the plants indoor under LED light, then how do the bees come into play?

Don’t get me wrong, the bee/honeycomb design is pleasant – the packaging also has a window on the back so you can see your nugs, always important.

Let’s talk specifics:

CBD: 0.41%
THC: 22.43%
Total: 22.84%

Strain: Dutch Treat
Species: Hybrid (Indica dominant)
Smell: Lemon + Carrot + Funk
Taste: Earthy + Pine
Launch Point: 1-3 minutes after smoking
High: Thick (like fog) + Creative + Euphoric

Apparently, the strain Dutch Treat is a descendent of Northern Lights.  It’s commonly used in medical prescriptions for easing pain, and insomnia.  Enjoying the strain from a purely recreational standpoint is totally cool, too.

This particular iteration of Dutch Treat has a furry, crystal-laden exterior.  As you can see from the photos, the fine red hairs are compact amongst the leaves and a mosaic of green.  These are some fine nugs that break up delicately, and burn evenly.

In terms of aroma, this strain does not show up short; the smell is poignant – it grabs you by the collar and gets your attention.  A mixture of lemon and carrot is what this author could discern, though everyone typically has different perceptions of such things.

Dutch Treat tastes earthy, and slightly piny.  There’s a subtle floral element when vaped, but the herb tastes good no matter how hard it is to define.

The high is powerful, I’m usually more into the sativa spectrum so this strain packed a wallop for me.  It’s got this instantaneous stoned thing going on, but then again that’s often what happens when you take a bong rip to the face (though I try to be objective and feel/time the onset).

Smoking Dutch Treat is deep, yet euphoric.  It’s easy to lull off and get sucked into whatever you’re doing, but all it really takes is a step out your front door to invoke the adventurer within the strain.  Sentences may be hard to form, but forge on through the streets until you’ve found someplace worthy of drink and merriment.

Too much consumption will likely lead to burnout, but there’s nothing wrong with a little afternoon/early evening power rest to get you through to the next session.  Treat this Dutch Treat like you would any indica (or anything for that matter), and enjoy responsibly.

Shoutout to Happy Valley Farms and all their bees, this weed was stellar.  Looking forward to when we cross paths again.  Bzzzzzzzzz.
