Call me Fischer; some moments ago (never mind how long precisely), having little or no money in my account, and nothing of particular interest to me on shore – I thought I would sail about a little and see the watery part of the world while sampling Moby Dick. It was produced by Farmer J’s, and was wrangled in from Ocean Greens, a lovely little Seattle pot shop which borrows inspiration from Amsterdam.
Just in case you aren’t in the know, the first paragraph of this article was borrowed from the novel Moby Dick – which I found appropriate considering it’s also the name of the strain we’re sampling and discussing today.
Farmer J’s is a producer/processor located in Spokane Valley. From a quote on their website, Farmer J’s “… offer[s] a large variety of top shelf flowers to meet the evolving cannabis market. Farmer J’s will come to be known as the benchmark supplier retailers.” Heck yeah, I like this enthusiasm.
Note: Enthusiasm is further captured by the bro-fist photo displayed front and center on the Farmer J’s website. Nothing says “we got this recreational thing” like a couple bro’s bro-fisting in nature.
The packaging is simple, just a see through bag with a couple stickers – but as I’ve mentioned before, a see-through bag is necessary considering Washington’s laws (if the bag is opaque, a mistake you might make). Looking at the front, the Farmer J’s logo is perfect; a forest green font that contrasts nicely with the buds inside. They also use the pot leaf as an apostrophe, which is pretty adorable.
Turning to the back, we get a small sticker detailing strain-centric information. There is much included, and that’s why I’m going to launch us right into The Specifics:
Cannabinoid Total – 17.3%
THC-Total – 16.5%

There wasn’t an immediate smell to Moby Dick until it was churned through my grinder, and all of a sudden wafts of lemony-skunk entered my face. I love a good pungent surprise, and surely this strain delivered just that.
To look upon Moby Dick unfortunately leaves something to be desired, but rest assured this is by far the only fault this author could find with the otherwise stellar strain. I’m well aware all buds aren’t created equally, but it’s important for me to be critical in the presentation (which we all know is only superficial, some of the ugliest looking buds have been the most potent). A little more nug, a little less leaf, a little less shake – that’s all I ask.
Smoking Moby Dick from a pipe is an interesting experience as it plays upon the lineage – to which I will divulge: according to Farmer J’s website, Moby Dick is hybrid bred from White Widow and Haze. The taste is likened to play upon vanilla and eucalyptus, and with this in mind I could discern those flavors upon my palate when sampling. It’s like a dessert strain, and that is fantastic (and delicious). That could pair well with 500 mg cbd extracts just before you go to bed.
Grinder in hand, I picked up my bowl. Adorning my Team Zissou hat and glock, it was time to spear the beast known as Moby Dick. This is some seriously great tasting herb (as I mentioned above), and the high is just as good. It’s light and airy – the hybrid is sativa dominant which really shines through. Need to get stuff done? Check. Want to meditate? Check. Moby dick is extremely head oriented, and it is easy to get overly involved in whatever you are doing (even if what you are doing is nothing).
Burnout is minimal, although there are hints of sleepiness – this hybrid lets you continue enjoying your day after you’ve indulged. So… why not indulge again? After all Moby Dick is a whale of a strain, and it’s clear Farmer Js’ upholding “The Green Standard” – from seed to sealed.
