Budtenders Ball: Police crash ‘weed party’ but the celebration goes on

November 20, 2015 By Manic Conrad

The DB3/Zoots sponsored Budtenders Ball happened last night at The Crocodile in Belltown. The private, industry only event, brought budtenders together from recreational marijuana stores throughout the city.

The show began at 8:30pm and lasted until 1:30am with musical performances by Pickwick and Fly Moon Royalty. Of course, we were looking forward to seeing Pickwick but wow, was Fly Moon Royalty great or what?!

Fly Moon Royalty

In addition to the musical guests, a charity raffle was held and door prizes were handed out. Proceeds of the raffle went to Mary’s Place, which is a charity that empowers homeless women, children, and families.

We spoke to two of the founding brothers who were in attendance, Dan and Patrick Devlin. They both were beyond thrilled with the generous turnout and expressed their excitement for the existing industry and the future. Patrick expressed that this event was a ‘celebration on many levels.’

Cannabus Seattle

One unforeseen event occurred a couple of hours after the event started. The CannaBus, which was parked outside the entrance, was ordered to shut down or move to a different location for the duration of the evening. The bus was catering to attendees by providing a refuge to consume cannabis since consumption was not allowed at the event.

Police The Cannabus The Crocodile

It appeared that someone may have complained about the smell of cannabis as a police officer was seen taking control of the situation. The officer acted very professionally and cordial. In fact, this may have been the tamest party crashing we have ever witnessed.

All in all, the Zoots sponsored event was a raving success. It’s events like this that remind us how lucky we are to be part of an industry where positive individuals come together from all walks of life.

Zoots knight

A special thanks to Zoots/DB3 and the Devlin brothers for putting on such a wonderful event, Kyle Mallory of Koopman Ostbo, Pickwick and Fly Moon Royalty for their noteworthy performances, all the budtenders who showed up representing their stores and industry, and the Cannabus for rolling with the punches while progressing the industry.

Marijuana Edible Review: The Goodship Co. Chocolate Chip Cookie

June 4, 2015 By Fischer Campbell

The Goodship Company Cookie Review

All aboard The Goodship, a Seattle based producer of artisan marijuana edibles.  High Above Seattle got a chance to meet the folks behind The Goodship at Green-Theory’s VIP Event, and we snagged ourselves a sea salt chocolate chip cookie (for review purposes, of course).

First off, let’s talk about The Goodship: the founder, Jody Hall, is a renowned baker – and she owns Cupcake Royale (Seattle’s first [and most famous] cupcake bakery & cafe).  Hall partnered with the mad scientists over at Db3 (responsible for Zoots edibles and concentrates) – and the rest is history, delicious history.  Db3 uses their state-of-the-art equipment to bring you Hall’s vision of an artisan, potent, provocative recreational marijuana cookie.

At the moment, there are 2 products available in I-502 stores – the sea salt chocolate chip cookie, and the saigon cinnamon snickerdoodle cookie.  Coming soon, though, are chocolate bars: coffee & dark chocolate, and deep dark chocolate.

The Goodship Company packaging front

Looking at packaging, The Goodship has a focus on seemingly steampunk oriented travel.  The sea salt chocolate chip cookie has a gold viking-esque ship emblazoned on the front, whilst other packages include hot air balloons, submarines, and some sort of funky zephyr.

We’ve touched on The Goodship’s intuitive, elegant and friendly art before – but it’s worth mentioning that having an iconic feel to your products is just as important as having a memorable name.  Hall & Db3 definitely accomplished both prerogatives, in that they have a cool name, and lovely art to go alongside.

The-Goodship-Company-packaging-back

On the back of the package, there is a little notice: This is your Captain speaking.  We recommend starting with a half serving to responsibly reach cruising altitude.  Overdoing it can spoil the ride.  A good tip of new comers, but I went ahead and ate the whole thing.  It was 10mg of THC, and for me it was just the right amount.

As you can see from the photos – the cookies are a perfect toasty brown.  The sea salt is delicately present, and adds a second level of crunch to the consistency.  All and all it is a small cookie, don’t expect to fill up on one of these.

The taste is (obviously) that of a cookie, but with a slight hint of THC in there.  The sea salt plays nicely with the sweetness, reminding me of Fleur de Sel Caramels.  Taking a gander at the ingredients, it’s clear that quality is important – I also was happy to see that there was non-GMO corn syrup used.  I’d imagine in the coming months that we might see organic and vegan edibles emerging.

After I ate the cookie, we went to see Avengers: Age of Ultron.  Eating a weed cookie is the perfect solution to going to a movie, because the high keeps coming even halfway through.  If you smoke before a movie then you’ve got to endure the lines, previews, and whatnot all at the apex of your high… by the time the movie actually starts, you’re burnt out!  But with edibles, the timing is right on.

The Goodship Company postcard

Of course, seeing a movie wouldn’t be my only choice of activity.  Looking at this postcard I got from The Goodship, I’d like to be sitting out with my feet in the water, enjoying the sun as a panorama of mountains surrounds me.  Then a magical steampunk zephyr-ship comes by and drops me a ladder, ushering me to the highest of highs.  There is a whale, too!

Do yourself a favor, and sample this potent, decadent treat today.  The Goodship products can be found at many I-502 retailers in Seattle, King County, and Washington state.

Marijuana Review: ZootRocks by Zoots – Lemongrass Nuggets Edible Review

February 26, 2015 By Fischer Campbell

There really is nothing like a good marijuana edible, and High Above Seattle would like to start reviewing the ever growing recreational edible market. This week we bring you Db3‘s ZootsRocks Lemongrass, “premium cannabis infused nuggets”.

Love the name, anything that uses the phrase nugget instantly has me hooked… it’s such a funny word!  Pass me a nugget.

Zoots edibles are a product of Db3, a Seattle based producer/processor of premium marijuana infused blends.  Db3 are at the forefront of the recreational edible market, offering (at the moment) four consumable products: brownie bites, energy drink shot, mixable drops (think MiO), and of course the candy nuggets.

These products are featured across multiple recreational stores in Seattle, and throughout Washington state. However, these ZootRocks were obtained from good ol’ Uncle Ike’s Pot Shop in the Central District. For additional retailers, Zoots has a great “store finder” feature over at their sleek website zootology.com – it really is important to have an internet presence, and Db3 have clearly put some TLC into their website.

DB3 Zoots Zootrocks in a tin

ZootRocks come in a tin, much like a breath mint.  The tin is adorned with some fantastic artwork, and a choice of simplicity over complexity in terms of information provided.  Much like their website, there is a focus on going out into nature and consuming weed edibles (I can dig it).  We’ve got a lovely mountain view behind the Zoots logo, and on the website are various images of folks day hiking in scenic vistas (while, presumably, stoned off their ass).

It’s inspiring to see how the average perception of the stoner has gone from couch potato, to avid outdoorsman.  I love it.

Here is a photo detailing the specifics on the back of the tin:

ZootRocks’ lemongrass nuggets are about the width of a fingertip, and they’ve been pressed into shapes that are somewhat akin to a star or diamond.

As the name suggests, these little morsels taste of lemongrass – and aren’t super sugary.  The bon bon’s take awhile to dissolve so just roll with it, savor the flavor.  Speaking of such things, there are actually two flavors of  ZootRocks (the other being chili cinnamon fire) – it’s nice to have variety.

When getting high with ZootRocks’ nuggets, you’ve got remember that patience is a virtue.  This author popped one and went about the day as normal, surely within under an hour I was baked without the baking.  The high is like the habanero, a slow burn that has a lasting peak – creeping up, and eventually becoming undeniable.

Zootsrocks-Zoots-Lemongrass-nuggets-inside

The duration of the high is lengthy, as is the case with most edibles.  One could understand why taking a hike is advertised, simply because you’ll be high the whole time.  It’s not recommended to take more than one ZootRock in a sitting, probably because you’ll be on par with a wino.

Db3 are a badass local producer, and we should all support them by buying more edibles – like now.  Go on out to your local recreational marijuana shop and tell ’em “bring on the zoots!” (or, y’know, say it normally – whichever you prefer.)

Mirth Provisions CEO’s Perspective After ‘Exploding Bottles’ Incident

Adam Stites just posted a blog post on his website in the aftermath of the incident where his bottles were removed from 3 recreational marijuana stores. You can read about the incidence here. Not only did Stites address the situation, but also reiterated the company’s philosophy and commitment to create a fantastic product. Stites reminds us that this industry is new and a ‘Wild Wild West’ of sorts.

Not many CEO’s have a blog where you can ‘see inside the mind,’ so do take advantage of the posts Stites has written.

Leafly Selling Iconic Tees For a Good Cause

Leafly is selling their one of a kind iconic tees for $25.00 on their website. Proceeds from all sales go to the Be Strong Fight On! Foundation. In the past, you could get these marijuana tees for free by downloading their app on your smartphone, but that meant you had to find a Leafly booth and those are not always around. But that’s beside the point as proceeds of every sale goes to a good cause!

Craft Elixirs Cannabis Syrups to be Sold in Local Recreational Stores Soon?

According to the Analytical 360 twitter, they are currently testing a batch of cannabis syrups by Craft Elixirs. Bagley Avenue Brew is featured in the photo which is a coffee/chicory flavored syrup.  It should just be a matter of time before we start to see the product in local recreational marijuana stores.
