The clear answer

Seattle is not Amsterdam.

Licensed cannabis retailers sell to adults 21 and older, but that does not automatically make a bar, coffeeshop, hotel, park, or event a lawful place to consume.

Public is public—even when the vibe feels private.

Do not assume consumption is permitted on sidewalks, in parks, at transit stops, in vehicles, or in a venue simply because cannabis culture is visible there. Property rules, smoke-free laws, event permits, and state cannabis rules can all apply.

The safest planning assumption is to consume only where an adult is legally allowed to do so and the property owner has explicitly permitted it. Never drive impaired.

Retail stores are for shopping, not sampling.

A dispensary listing can help you compare location, hours, services, and official menus. It should not suggest that a standard licensed retailer doubles as a lounge.

For events and stays, ask the exact question.

“Cannabis friendly” is vague. Before booking, ask what form of consumption is allowed, in what exact area, under which house or venue rule, and whether local law permits it. An old blog mention is not confirmation.

Call the venue. Get the rule in writing. Recheck it on the day.

For current rules, start with the Washington State Liquor and Cannabis Board and the City of Seattle. Store licensing and medical endorsements should be checked separately from marketing copy.
